1846 Very Early 36"x24" Stovepipe" Statehood Map of Texas by S.A. Mitchell(Reproduction) Great Gift! In 1846 when this historic Texas reproduction map was published by S.A. Mitchell. Sr. the boundaries of the state were still unsettled. The"stovepipe" extension reaching to the 42nd parallel is shown and the boundaries around El Paso in far west Texas are still unresolved and will be until 1850. The area west of Dallas and Fort Worth was almost entirely wild and the llano estacado atop the Caprock was largely unknown territory. This early map also shows Indian Territory which had been formed in the 1830's as well as Taos and Santa Fe which had been claimed by the Texas Republic. This is one of the few early maps that shows the entire state of Texas without truncation. Which adds greatly to visual appeal. This is a three-layer map set produced by Nystrom. The three layers include a map of Texas(map number INS42) A map of the World(map number INS99) and a map of the United States(map number INS1) The map of Texas is on top, followed by the World map, and then the U.S. map. The map number for the set is INS991. I'm not sure of the exact copyright. But I believe it is around 1990. This map measures 53 inches high by 65 inches wide. It comes mounted on a spring roller. With a wood dowel at the end. This map shows a little bit of wear from general classroom use. But overall it is in great condition. There are some rips on the outside of the map, but these do not go all the way through the map. They only appear when the map is rolled up and are not noticeable when the map is pulled down.
