A scale of German miles is also featured in a separate cartouche. Covering present day south west Poland. The map is oriented with north to the left and is centred approximately on Glogow(Glogaw) Extends through Zielona Gora(Grunsberg) to Zagan(Sagan) in the west, to Herrnstadt in the east, to Lubin(Luben) in the south, and to the River Obra in the north. French text verso. An insignificant marginal edge tear has been repaired verso. No other repairs or restoration. Some patchy browning and dampstaining in the margins as seen. Atlas Novus" which eventually ran to 12 volumes and was published in several languages from 1635- 1662. The print shop and warehouse was destroyed by fire in 1672 and Willem's last son died the following year. The map was actually printed in 1841, but depicts an earlier historical period, prepared by Houze, a member of the Societe de Geographie in Paris. A great map for anyone interested in this historical period. There is a nice summary of the main historical events in the margin below the map with corresponding numbers to their locations on the map. Overall a very nice example printed on strong paper with original handcolor in great shape. Size: The map image measures approximately 8 by 11(20x28cm) inches on a 10 by 13" 26x33cm) page with a margin all around for matting. As seen in the main pic. Condition: It is in Very Good condition for its age with light tonal ageing. They have been numbered in India Ink in the corner. Other than a slight darkening around the edges. 1616 Bertius Map- Prussia Petrus Bertius was a professor of mathematics and librarian at Leyden University in Holland. He is known for his miniature world atlas'Tabularum geographicarum contractarum' Although not an actual mapmaker himself. Bertius's text was embellished with maps from the foremost engravers of the late 1500's and early 1600's, including Pieter Van den Keere and Jocodus Hondius. With its dismembered provinces and the Kingdm. of Prussia. Description: This important 1799 map by Laurie and Whittle depicts the Kingdom of Poland following the 1795 Third Partition. The map covers from Brandenburg to Russia and from the Gulf of Livonia to Moldova and Hungary. Including all of Poland and the former Grand Duchy of Lithuania, parts of Prussia, Russia, Livonia, Hungary, Germany and Austria. This map depicts Poland in 1799, four years following the 1795 Third Partition of Poland. Here Russia has annexed more the entire western half of the former Polish-Lithuanian Confederation. Austria seized the lands around Lwow and Krakow while Prussia claimed the territories ... moreto the north and west of Warsaw. By the mid-18th century Poland, due to an inefficient and corrupt internal bureaucracy, had lost much of its autonomy to its aggressive and powerful neighbors: Russia, Austria and Prussia.
