The lower margin is printed with 1895, 1898 and 1901 copyrights to thus the date. This map also has a overprinted red numbers showing the location of railroad depots in the state with a legend in one corner listing the railroads by name for each number used. This map has a small piece missing off one edge outside the map area. The map is rather fragile with partial separation on the fold lines in several places. This map was folded irregularly but could still be matted and framed for an attractive display. This is an original antique published in 1901. Email any questions. Thanks for looking. As Wheat notes this map is significant as one of several issued up to about 1823 that galvanized geographic ideas regarding the only tenuously explored lands beyond the Rocky Mountains, including the mythical'River of the West' or'Buenaventura' and other speculations. Following the 1819 Ames-Onis Treaty(on the map identified as the Florida Treaty) this map is among the earliest to include Florida ... moreas part of the United States. Cruchley began his cartographic career as an apprentice at the venerable Aaroon Arrowsmith firm. Many of Cruchley's earliest maps bear the words"From Arrowsmith's" on the imprint. In 1844 Cruchley acquired the massive stock of the important early 19th century firm of John Cary. Cruchley published his own maps as well as reissues of Cary's stock well into the 1870s. Condition: It is in Good condition with overall light tonal aging and original hand coloring as issued. There are multiple folds as issued wtih some minor browning that is less obvious on the actual map. Slight creasing along the edges. We have made some archival repairs on reverse reinforcing some of the fold edges that had short separations and a couple of the intersection folds that had small tears, so it has been nicely restored and very well preserved, not brittle and able to be unfolded and folded without issue, although care should be taken in handling any antique map. Uphoff& Co. printed on the cover panels and in the margin of the map. This map has a 1913 copyright by The Kenyon Company of Des Moines and folds out to about 21.5” x 20” with a large color map of Arkansas printed on one side and an index of Arkansas towns and other information printed on the verso. This map is contained within the original printed covers. The front cover panel reads: Map of ARKANSAS– No Rocks. Hills Nor Swamps– 30 Acres in The Coming Country– Arkansas is Coming to the Front– Wm. C. Uphoff& Co. Fourth Floor Times Building, St. Louis, Missouri The back cover panel is printed with an additional ... morestatement about the prospects of land investing in Arkansas which is described as a“diamond in the rough” The Wm. C Uphoff& Co. name is overprinted on the map along with the company’s address and the addresses of the branch offices in Little Rock and Chicago. There is also a large circle overprinted on the center of the map around the town of Pine Bluff which I presume indicates the area where the company was offering land for sale. I found some information online indicating William C. Uphoff was later indicted for fraudulent land deals in New Mexico. This map is an original antique published more than 100 years ago. This map is fully complete and well intact with only a small bit of separation on the fold lines in a couple spots. The covers show some wear but overall condition is good. Email any questions. St. Louis Street Guide and Map - VINTAGE - Pocket Edition, Third Printing ? Date
VINTAGE ST. LOUIS. MISSOURI STREET GUIDE Shows St. Louis City and St. Louis County Estimated age: 50. 60 or even older. This street guide was printed before AT&T changed phone numbers from 2 Letters-5 numbers as in FLanders 5-4307 to 7 Numbers. And zip codes started being used by the Post Office in 1963. This book still has two digits for the City Postal Code. And Highway 270 is not shown; neither is Highway 44. Highway 60-40 ends before downtown Saint Louis and Highway 141 is still two lanes. Jefferson National Expansion Memorial is shown(that's where the Arch is) and it shows where the Steamer Admiral was on the Mississippi Riverfront. The Eads Bridge is shown and so is the Veterans Bridge in downtown St. Louis. So I think this map is from the 50's or 60's. Sure wish there was a date in it. GENEALOGY RESEARCH Maybe you want ... moreto find the street where your family lived before the big highways cut up the neighborhoods in St. Louis and St. Louis County. Or maybe your family had a farm where there is a big subdivision now. This will be a great item for your research. I should donate it to the St. Louis County Library but they probably have one already. My pictures will give you an idea of the contents of the street guide. There is an index in the back so you can find the page your street is on. And there is a Key to Maps in the front so you can find the general area that you want. Oh. And the little City of Times Beach is shown on page 65. That town no longer exists because of the Dioxin problem. There is no date on the map at all so we are unsure how old it is. It is found in good used condition showing signs of it's age. The cover's edges are worn and there is a green ink stain on the back.
