Souvenir Hotel Scribe Allied Headquarters in Paris SHAEF & Map of Paris pre WWII
For your consideration: Extremely Rare a fold out souvenir of the Hotel Scribe where after D-Day and the allies had Paris in control. The Hotel Scribe served as the Allied Headquarters in Paris SHAEF. This includes all Allied war correspondents operated here as censorship. And psychological warfare operations. Hemingway and Capra and others are illustrated in the bar room of the Hotel Scribe in Life Magazine. Very nice condition no tears or holes and printed on heavy stock. This is not dated and was included grouping of letters and photos I am inclined to believe that this was recovered by a GI during the occupation however due to lack of provenance another may take up the research at an inexpensive cost. The last picture details the Hotel the language is correct for the era the picture above clearly shows vehicles representative of the late ... morethirties. Considering the Hotel under was under Nazi occupation since May of 1940 there in fact would be no need for the Hotel to revise its literature. A very rare piece of ephemera I have yet to find or see another. Also included is a beautiful map of Paris fold outs to 21 ¼” x 17 ¼” please note pictures for condition as it does need repairs if framed it would make a wonder piece of décor. Note the images were taken with a flash I tried to include one that without so you could see the color if this is your intended purpose. RARE VINTAGE LITHOGRAPH OF"MAP OF PARIS" CREATED IN 1927 BY FAMED MODERNIST DESIGNER ILONKA KARASZ This map was found in a box of travel material/ephemera that I purchased at an auction. The box I won at the auction had much ephemera on cruise liners and traveling throughout London. Paris, Scotland, Europe. I am in the process of researching these items and so I will be listing them as I go on eBay. I know from the material from this box I obtained that the items were placed within it many years ago and the box was then shut closed. The original envelope in which I found the map is most likely very rare. It is 11" by 8.5" and is in good-acceptable condition. It has been opened on top by a letter opener. However there are some tears. Esp. on the upper left corner and it shows age. There is tanning and other aspects that ... moreshow age. But nonetheless it is not a mess-it is still intact. The photo of the envelope comes up somewhat a little brighter from flash. The map is folded inside and there is a miniscule tear at the end of one corner of the main fold and when opened- this tear can hardly be seen on each corner. However. I took a photo of the worst small tear so you can see that it is not much of an issue. Please take a close look at the last photo and see that these very slight tears or not too noticeable. Once one perhaps linen backs the map or/and has it framed professionally then these tiny tears will most likely not even be seen. This absolutely beautiful boldly colorful map expands to a full 28" height by 36.5" in length. It was a"wow" moment when I first saw it. The red is really RED. The blues BLUE and the yellows YELLOW and the map looks like it has never seen the light of day. Most of the ephemera I have obtained has to do with the years 1934-1936. So it must have been purchased during this time period. The Map of Paris was created in 1927 by Ilonka Karasz and published by The Washington Square Book Shop at 27 W. 8th St. NYC.
