This is a gorgeous 156 year old antique map. Not a modern reproduction. It is a beautiful large format 1857 printing of Valentine's map. State of New York and the Territories Depending Thereon" To His Excellency George Clinton Esq) The map shows lower Manhattan. Which was primarily agrarian at the time, with American and British fortifications. The"Reference" section at the lower right lists important landmarks, including Fort George, important churches, the Jewish Synagogue, the Theatre, and the House of Correction. The map was published just as the Civil War had ended and New York City under Tammany Hall had emerged as the most important city in America. The map is highly detailed, with all streets and some buildings rendered, a fledgling railroad(today's LIRR) now mapped, and with a beautiful rendering of the then-new Central Park. Very Rare Oversized 1873 Map of New York City
Showing the High and Low Water Mark and the Original City Grants of Lands Under Water Made to Various Parties from 1686 to 1873… Date: 1873 Size: 23 x 34 inches(58.5 x 86.4 cm) This unusual and very interesting map of Lower Manhattan shows the early land grants that were originally under water and were reclaimed by the city for the rapidly growing shipping industry. The map is beautifully detailed. Showing numerous docks and slips and identifying important buildings. The map is drawn based upon U.S. Coast Surveys, as well as surveys made by the city's Department of Docks. Surveyed by Gen. Charles K. Graham. Engineer in Chief of the port of New York. Issued folding with moderate toning along the folds and numerous fold separations. Some o f which are closed on verso with archival material. With a couple of tiny areas of loss. Note that ... morethe first image is a flattened scan and so better shows the actual condition of the map. Which is generally good save for the fold separations. The subsequent images are taken by camera of the map loosely laid out on the floor, and so the fold lines appear much more prominent.

Nice old maps from The New Encyclopedic Atlas and Gazetteer of the World by Collier& Son published in 1914 with census of 1910 Buffalo. New York Copyright- this page does not have a date I am guessing about 1908 since that is the date on most of the city maps in this book + + + Page measures 10-3/4" X 15" lots of details on map- see closeups Good condition with some smudges and foxing that is typical for this vintage. Also has a couple of 1 to 2 inch tears in the writing at the bottom. All of our maps are originals. We do not destroy good books. But rescue pages from damaged and ruined atlas books.
