This chart was first issued in 1849 and, in this state, is updated to 1973. The map covers the west coast of Mexico including Puerto Marques and Acapulco and offers extraordinary detail throughout including topography. Two elevation profiles are included along the left border. Countless depth soundings throughout in fathoms. The chart is prepared on a Gnomonic projection at a scale of 1: 24610. Represents chart no. 1944. Publisher: The Admiralty refers to the Branch of the English government that is responsible for the command of the British Navy. In 1795 King George III created the United Kingdom Hydrographic Office. Known in short as the U.K.H.O. to provide top notch nautical charts to the ... morevast Royal Navy. The first person to head the U.K.H.O. was the important cartographer Alexander Dalrymple. Dalrymple organized and catalogued the Admiralty’s collection of charts before beginning the laborious process of updating them and filling in the blanks. The map is in very good condition with some signs of wear an use and does have several pencil notations. It is a nice collectible and it would be interesting to compare it with a current map. A beautifully executed combination of colored topographical land elevations depicted by height with red overprinted railroad lines which have been extensively referenced across the map. Along the side or bottom is a key of boxes. Where each color represents a range of heights. Thus, when viewing the map, you quickly see the topographical nature of the state. Delicately overprinted in red near the title and across the state are the extensive range of railroad lines then in operation. Printed in the very early 20th century.
