They were produced by experts in the relevant field, and intended for educational use, so were meticulously accurate, as well as works of art in their own right. GENERAL NOTE ON CONDITION: The prints from this encyclopaedia series are over 120 years old. And there is the expected evidence of age, which may include toning especially at the page edges, foxing, handling marks, slight waviness of the paper and a degree of fragility. Most maps and engravings from this period were bound into books, rather than issued separately. That is the case with this series, and the plates were carefully bound in, using tabs, a method that minimises damage to folded plates/ maps. This is for the map you see in the pictures. This is a big map at 11 x 14-1/2 inches from edge to edge. The map is in great condition with no rips or marks in the map part and just slight toning to the page. This is a double or triple sided map and will include the Countries in the title. Some of the map pages are made together as they have a 2 page map on the inside and a single one on the back of each side of that. You will have to look carefully at the pictures as that is the maps you will get. I have a lot of other maps on from this atlas and will combine shipping. This atlas was already divided into the maps before I bought it so this is how you will get the maps. This is a very hard to find book and not a common atlas. This Map was designed by Matthew Carey a Dublin Born Publisher. Who established himself in Philadelphia in the late 18th and early 19th century. He had His most important work was the 1795 American Atlas, which was the first to be published in America. He also had lifelong friendship with Benjamin Franklin. This map is in very good condition and is in a museum mounted frame. The label on the back says published in England, but it was published in Philadelphia. The map shows Texas, New Mexico, and Central America. This will make a good addition to any map collection.
