A beautifully engraved and very detailed map of this region. With a profusion of details and small towns not often seen. With a small decorative globe sitting on top of a compass rose above the title and distance scale. In near VG or better condition. Some light scattered foxing as typical[note: we grade very conservatively and always seek to disclose any noteworthy flaws] The printed area remains visually pleasing, a nice impression of an interesting map. 1871 Hand Colored Map of Spain and Portugal by John Bartholomew Publisher was A&C Black Great old map of Spain and Portugal for your consideration. Recently picked the piece up at an auction. The map is in two pieces at the seam where it was bound at one time. The map is not laid down in the matting. Just loose. The saran wrap is no longer over the map as took off to examine the map more closely. There are no rips or tears in the map with the exception of a 1 inch one on the border, just under Portugal and between the numbers 8 and 9. There is also an impression in the Mediterranean Sea, just above the"T" in Mediterranean. Also, another small tear on the border right border of the map between 38 and 39. The map is 23" across by 17" tall. The map is identified as being hand colored in the letter of authenticity. The ... moremap was also attributed to 1871 at the auction. But I do not see that year on the map or the letter of authenticity. I suspect the authenticity labels go back 25-30 years ago, but you be the judge. Gorgeous colored lithograph map featuring the Coun try of S pain with a with an incredible amount of detail. Map measures 14" X 11" Please see pictures for condition detail.
