Vintage Scarce c 1930's Geography World Tellurometer Map Meter Motions of Earth
Here is a very interesting. And I think somewhat rare. Flat-world map device called a TELLUROMETER. To quote the description on the reverse of the map. The Tellurometer is an apparatus designed to measure and demonstrate the effects of the motions of the earth on its axis and around the sun. see Photo 9) It goes on to explain that the Tellurometer also shows" Zones" of the world that are in summer and winter based on the earth's axis; that part of the earth that is in day and night by geography; the seasons of the year as viewed at any set time of the year; relative general temperature of places on the globe based on the direct rays of the sun; and. It states that the Tellurometer has other uses for teachers and students. This piece was manufactured by the Denoyer-Geppert Company. Chicago. It was designed by Dr. David J Swartz. ... morePhD(see Photo 4) It shows the Patent No.1932609. And the piece has a number S214 at the bottom right corner. The explanation of the Tellurometer's functions as written on the reverse also by Dr. Swartz. There is no date on this item. But it has the"feel" of the 1930's or earlier; not past the 1940's is my estimation. The piece is 12" x 11" It is made of light weight cardboard sealed around the edges with a dark green cloth tape. Except at 6:00 o'clock where the user rotates the world projection to establish the seasons, day and night, sun's rays, etc. There is a plastic coating over the map to protect it. This piece is 100% original and all intact and fully functioning as designed. The continents- and only about 15% of Eurasia is showing. The western part- are depicted in pink, with the USA in a darker shade of pink. The mapping is simplified. I would say this was designed for classroom use for high school. It is in good condtion with some water spots and browning on the obverse cardboard. I suspect that there are other geographic"meters" put out by Denoyer-Geppert for students in this era, but this is the only one I've se

Condition: It is in Good condition with overall tonal aging. Blank on the reverse, printed on heavy paper with original hand coloring and a centerfold as issued. There is some edge wear with a couple of short edge tears of less than an inch, some rounding of the corners, hint of a damp stain on the edges of the side margin and some light handling around the margins, otherwise the map is very clean and would frame up nicely.
