It is from Everts The Official State Atlas of Kansas(Philadelphia: L.H. Everts& Co. 1887) one of the rarer state atlases. A copy of the title page is included for authenticity. The atlas is the first to compile and show in detail the various counties, cities and towns of Kansas. The maps show much details including towns, townships, sections, quarter sections, schools, some houses and other details. On some maps there are surveryor seals, signatures ... moreand script that were printed in the plate, many of these maps were originally procured from the Kansas Survey offices and reproduced for the atlas. The maps were first printed by lithographic process and then the color washes were hand applied, often with stencil for the large fields of color. The map is not mounted, matted nor framed being sold as seen in the pics, photographed against a dark background. There are maps and town plans on both sides as seen, so if framing one would have to choose a side to frame. Overall, a very nice rare example in very good condition for its age. Size: The entire page measures 14 by 17 1/2 inches with the map image area slightly smaller as shown in the pic with a margin all around. Condition: It is in Very Good condition for its age printed on a light buff page and original handcoloring as issued. It is basically as seen in the pics. Other than some darkening around the edges. Wondeful and uncommon transitional map of these Western states. Great detail. Showing Indian reservations, wagon trails, military forts, topography, Fremont's route in 1845, etc. This particular map only appeared in a few editions of Mitchells atlas, and was revised. In near VG or better condition. Light minor age wear but the image is overall very presentable and attractive[note: we grade very conservatively and always seek to disclose any noteworthy flaws] The printed area remains visually pleasing.
