Offered here is a genuine antique map of the continent of Africa. It is a miniature map depicting the world known in classical times. The map is in the central section of a large oval frame. It extends as far east as China and Sumatra and as far south as to northern tip of Madagascar. The border is ornamented with strapwork in each corner. With the title across the top and the attribution to Hondius across the bottom. Ref: King(2nd ed. pp. 96-99. Slight loss from worming. Professionally in-filled and backed with Japanese tissue with two letters in partial facsimile. The map measures about 5.25" by 3.75" On a 4.5 x 7.25" page. Copper-engraved, original, antique map of'Imperial Flanders' i.e. much of modern-day Belgium which includes Brussels, Antwerp and Ghent as well as several other large walled towns. The map was published in Amsterdam in the 1630s by Jan Jansson and Hondius and is from the French edition of their atlas(French text verso) Unlike the majority of their maps this one is untitled but it does include significant detail, particularly of the road network.
