Mappamondo del Blaeu, 1640 - INCISO e DIPINTO A MANO con ACQUERELLI cm 100x140
Il mondo in Cornice di Francesca. Stampe d'arte di Firenze Originale moderno stampato e dipinto interamente a mano dai migliori artigiani pittori di Firenze. Mappamondo Incisore: George Johannes Blaeu. 1640 Formato cm. 100x140 su foglio doppio IMPORTANTE: Le nostre stampe NON SONO poster stampati a macchina. Come ne trovate in gran numero su e-bay a prezzi irrisori. Originali moderni interamente stampati e dipinti a mano. Antique World Map Blaeu, Willem. Vintage World Map
Description: Copper-engraved map of the world. Hand-colored, surrounded by vignettes. German text on verso. Size:30' x 23' Classic single-sheet map of the world on Mercator's projection first brought out by Willem Blaeu in 1606. It remained in active circulation for over fifty years. And is celebrated as one of the supreme examples of the mapmaker's art. Based on Blaeu's large world map of 1605, this reduced version was originally issued separately, and later appeared in atlases. This example is from an atlas, and is the fourth state, identifiable by the addition of Blaeu's name to the title, and the omission of the 1606 date in the plate. The map began appearing with text on the verso around 1635, and was last issued in 1658, when it was superseded by a double-hemisphere world map by Willem's son Joan Blaeu. Shirley ... morenotes that"The most striking characteristics of Blaeu's map are the superb border decorations. Along the top are allegorical representations of the sun and moon and the five known planets- Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter and Saturn. Down the sides are, on the left, four panels illustrating the elements(Fire, Air, Water and Earth) and on the right, the four seasons. Along the bottom are seven vignettes showing the seven wonders of the world: the Hanging Gardens of Babylon, the Colossus over the harbour of Rhodes, the Pyramids(very quaintly depicted) the Mausoleum of Halicarnassus at Caria, the Temple of Diana(in Dutch baroque style) the Statue of Jupiter, and the conical lighthouse of Alexandria. The coloring on the present example seems fairly old, but its date is uncertain.

Nova Hispania et Nova Galicia. Blaeu W. J. 1635.Antique map of New Spain(Mexico) by Blaeu W. J. oriented to the North. The arms of King Philip IV of Spain appear on the title cartouche. Also on the cartouche are two armadillos, animals that often appear in allegorical representations as typical American animals. Date of the first edition: 1634 IThis map is either 1634 or1635. Copper engraving(15.50 x 20.0 inches) Verso: Mounted onto board. Latin Condition: Old Coloured. Koeman B15 map 179. There is a printed tear-sheet on the back of the frame that reads as follows: For this map of the western coastal regions of Mexico. Blaeu again took an earlier published map as his model. By way of the Hondius map of 1606. Blaeu's map goes back to the map published by the Antwerp mapmaker Abraham Ortelius in 1579, its self probably based on a slightly ... moreearlier manuscript map. Despite the implication in the title, the map does not cover all of the province of New Spain, only a portion of modern Mexico. At the time the region was described as being rich in gold and silver. With pearl fishing carried on in the coastal areas. The numerous salt lakes produced the finest salt by means of evaporation, and much was also made of the sugarcane cultivated here. In the east of the mapped area. Below the large title: cartouche may be seen the city of Mexico, situated on the shores of a large lake, described as an ample City, queen of all cities in the New World. Although the map maker gave no clues, the small lozenge-shaped symbols to the left of the cartouche probably indicate gold or silver mines. The elaborate cartouche is surmounted by the Spanish Royal Arms. GOSS) Some colour off-setting. Else excellent. There is a small piece torn from the map(see photo) Which is still on map with a small piece of old tape. This measures approx. 3/4" wide x approx. 1/4" I can ship this piece. Free Shipping on Purchases of 5 or More Maps and Prints Title: De Hertochdommen Gulick Cleve Berghe en de Graesschappen vander marck en Ravensbergh. 1610 Description: It is an authentic 17th century copper engraved antique map with original antique handcoloring and two vertical folds and one horizontal folds. It is a very early map by Willem Blaeu from one of his early atlases that appeared as appendixes. The corner portraits soon gave way to cartouches. Thus this is a rare map. Willem Janzoon Blaeu(1571-1638) perhaps the best known of the great 17th century Dutch mapmakers, who in 1633 became the official cartographer for the Dutch East India Company. His signature has been lost in the bottom left corner, only showing Amsterdam, the place ... moreof publication. There is a date of 1610 but was proabably published around 1625-1630, thus circa 1630. The map is being sold unframed as seen in the first pic. It is a rare map with nice cartouches and lots of detail for the era. Size: The sheet measures 16 1/2 by 21 inches. Condition: The map is in Fair condition for its age with overall tonal ageing. Tightly clipped borders and some paper loss as seen. At a later date the map was backed with another sheet that shows around the edges and the margins were slightly trimmed for a collector's personal atlas. There is some darkening, light plate residue, some smudges around the edges, basically as seen in the pic. We have provided plenty of good close up pics so you can see the actual condition very well. Overall, it has a desireable rich antique patina with origianl color, which is often lacking in the restored bleached copies, overall no really obtrusive distracting defects and would frame up very nicely. Payment Details: We accept most major credit cards through Paypal. Please ask if you have any questions about payment. International and New Bidders are welcomed and encouraged. Wacquen, Belgian Flanders: 15-5/8" x 21": Sanderus 1641 or Blaeu 1649?!?
Up for bids is this antique bird's-eye view of Wacquen. In Belgian Flanders! Specifically. It's a view of the Municipality of Wacquen, featuring the country seat of the local Magistrate, George Charles Francis of Burgundy. This print measures 15-5/8" x 21" and appears to have been created by Hondius; it looks to be from one of the following sources: A) Sanderus. Antonius: Flandria Illustrata sive Descriptio Comitatus istius per Totem Terrarum Orbem Celeberrimi" 1641-1649; OR: B) Blaeu. Johan, who purchased Sanderus' plates: Novum Ac. Magnum Theatrum Urbium Belgicae Foederatae. 1649; OR: C) Hague: Chr. van Lom, 1732-1735? Sorry. Folks, but I don't have the resources to make a definite determination on the origin of this print! Narrowing it down to these three probabilities is the best I can do.All I can add is ... morethat it is definitely NOT the 1680 de Wit Amsterdam print, which was cut down on the right-hand side. Partial hand-coloring here; the colorist used an unusually opaque variety of green. No telling why it wasn't finished. I'd recommend either soaking and pressing the print to remove what color there is and start over. Or continuing the coloring as is to achieve a more well-rounded appearance. I've NO IDEA of its value. CONDI TION: Very Good: heavyweight paper is still supple. Nibbles to the left-hand margin. Just impinging on image area. Central fold as issued. Margins have been trimmed to just outside the plate boundaries. NO holes! Reverse shows minor waterings, and what looks like the remnants of another piece of paper once glued down to the left side. Right-side page features a description of the town and its history, castle, market& church in the Dutch language. Winning bidder please add $2.50 for 1st Class shipping in USA! Description: Striking and highly decorative copper engraved map of the county of Nassau covering the region between Koblenz in the west and Giessen in the east. And between Wiesbaden in the south and Olpe in the north. The map is richly embellished with decorative title and scale cartouches and the coat of arms of Nassau nobility. This map was originally designed by Jodocus Hondius and engraved by Salomon Rogiers. After Hondius' death in 1629, the plate was acquired by Blaeu who deleted Hondius' name and added his own to the imprint. This map comes from the rare first spanish edition of Blaeu's Atlas. Spanish text edition of the Atlas Major The atlas Major was printed only in small numbers. The Spanish text edition is extremely rare. The Spanish ... moreedition was never completed. When fire destroyed the Blaeu printing house at the Gravenstraat in Amsterdam in 1672, the final volume was in the press and consequently lost. The Atlas Maior is the epitome of decades of achievement by the Blaeu family. Published in five languages(Latin. Dutch, French, German and Spanish) from 1662, it grew to eleven or twelve volumes in its most comprehensive editions, and was as Koeman observes a"costly atlas. Exclusively designed for those members of the patriciate who could command both the material and intellectual resources that were needed to buy and appreciate it" Joan's father, Willem Blaeu, commenced publication of his new world atlas, the Theatrum Orbis Terrarum, also referred to as the Atlas Novus, initially in two volumes, published in four languages. After succeeding his father, Joan Blaeu progressively expanded the Atlas Novus to six volumes by 1655, and this formed the first half the Atlas Maior. The rare Spanish edition of the Atlas Maior occupies an extraordinary place within the Blaeu epic. In contrast to the editions in other languages. Its volumes were printed serially over fifteen years, printed in more limited q

Joan BLAEU NASSAU STRAIT YUGORSKY STRAIT ARCTIC RUSSIA 1664 Copper Engraved MAP
Fretum Nassovium vulgo de Straet Nassou[Map of Nassau Strait. Modern Yugorsky Strait, Arctic Russia] BLAEU. Joan(1596-1673) Amsterdam: Joan Blaeu. 1664] Copper engraved map ca. 24,5x54 cm(9 ½ x 21 ¼ in) Original centerfold, blank on verso. Paper age toned and lightly creased, minor tear on the left margin, and repaired centrefold tear. Overall a good map with wide margins. A map from"Blaeu's Grooten Atlas" Dutch version of the Atlas Maior. 1662-1665) which shows the Strait of Nassau, modern Yugorsky Strait, a narrow sound between the Kara Sea and the Pechora Sea in the Artic. The map shows the Vaygach Island and the Russian Arctic mainland with detailed coastlines including sea depths and islands in the strait and Samoyed settlements on the mainland. The map is supplemented with two compass roses, rhumb lines and seven ... moreships entering the strait from the west. Two pictorial cartouches show figures of Arctic dogs, a dear, a polar bear, a bear skin and sea deities. The earliest recorded voyage through the Yugorsky Shar, traditionally known as the Arctic"Iron Gateway" into the Kara Sea was made from Nizhny Novgorod by early Russian explorer Uleb in 1032. Russian"Pomors" the coastal dwellers of the White Sea shores, had been exploring this strait since the 11th century. The Arctic's first shipping line, the Great Mangazea Route, from the White Sea to the Ob River and the Yenisei Gulf began operating in the latter part of the 16th century. This line opened up the way to Siberia's riches and worked until 1619, when it was closed for military and political reasons, for fear of possible penetration by Europeans into Siberia" Wikipedia) The first Western European navigators who went through the Yugorsky Shar were the Englishmen Arthur Pet and Charles Jackman: they explored the strait in 1580 and named it the Nassau Strait.
