No. This isn't an actual 17th Century printing- just the name of the print and the date of printing is unknown, but, I assume quite a while back.as this was acquired at an ephemera auction with other OLD paper items. My Guess that it was printed in the 1960s SIZE = 26" x 20" I know it looks yellowed. The pics were taken with inside light. Blaeu Wall World Map Metallic Colored Picture in Wood Frame 20" x 17"
This is a beautiful vintage colored metallic print of an antique World Map by William Janszon Blaeu The map measures approx. 20" x 17" and it is in a wooden frame measuring approx. 28" x 24" The frame shows some signs of age with minor nicks but to me that only adds to the beauty of the picture William Janszon Blaeu the founder of the the great map Publishing House of Blaeu was one of the first men in the world to produce maps showing the two Hemispheres( approx. AD 1605) appart from maps and atlases of normal size. The Publishing House also issued very large World Maps which today practically non-existent; because the where usually pined to walls and in due course rotted away and where destroyed. Fortunately Johannes. The son of the founder combined some of these maps into two enormous Atlases between the years 1647 and ... more1658. One is in the British Museum and the other is in Berlin. And the are known as the largest books in the world. The British Museum Atlas has rollers on its underside to enable it to be moved. This map. Taken from an original size 4 ft 6 in x 3 ft 6 in, is signed by the founder of the Blaeu House in the form of a dedication addressed to the Papal Ambassador in Venice. It was probably a gift and almost certainly for a mercenary reason. It appears to have been given in 1665 at which time the founder had already been dead for 27 years. So it is believed that his son Johannes copied his handwriting. The map is enriched with a border of 11 portraits across the top. Pope Innnocent XI is in the center. While the Horsemen depict all the reigning Monarchs of the day including Charles 2nd of Spain, Johannes 3rd of Poland. Louis XIV of France and the Sultan of Turkey, with whom the West was, at that time, at war. It is believed that the border was painted in Venice but is not known whether the Blaeu family or the Papal Ambassador was responsible. This particular map is a unique example of Blaeu and considered the finest in existence.

1646 Blaeu DUTCH ATLAS England GREAT BRITAIN Fine Binding ELEPHANT Folio ANTIQUE
NOUVUS ATLAS SIVE THEATRUM ORBIS TERRARUM IN QUO MAGNA BRITANNIA SEU ANGLIAE& SCOTIAE NEC NON HIBERNIAE REGNA EXHIBENTUR WILLEM& JOHANNES BLAEU. pars quarta Amsterdam: Apud Johannes Janssonium. 1646. A massive and spectacularly bound 22" + elephant folio copy of Joannes Blaeu's'Atlas of Britain. Bound in period full speckled calf. The spine gilt decorated with seven raised bands and brown morocco title label in gilt, as shown. The piece was published in Amsterdam by Johannes Janssonium in 1647; a n early edition of the greatest world atlas ever produced. The Theatrum Orbis Terrarum(or Theatre du Monde. In French) marks the intermediary stage in the development of the"greatest and finest atlas ever published" Koeman) In 1630, Willem Janzzon Blaeu, the official cartographer of the Dutch East India Company, published ... morehis first world atlas, the Atlantis Appendix, with 60 maps. The second expanded edition, with 99 maps, appeared in the following year. Blaeu continued to produce new maps at such a rate that by 1634, he abandoned the single volume format, and announced his intention to publish a new world atlas, entitled the Theatrum. This atlas, which originally incorporated most of the maps from Blaeu's Appendix, was expanded so rapidly that by 1646, it consisted of four volumes with 334 maps. The acclaim that Blaeu's atlas has always received is based primarily upon its extremely high production standards. The quality of the engravings in text, the thick stock paper, and typography are of the highest order, and place it in the first rank among seventeenth century illustrated books. This atlas here, vol IV, originally contained sixty maps, devoted to Great Britain alone. Retained, and as shown, are several engravings of British antiquities interspersed throughout the text, but this particular copy. Sadly, has had all of its maps removed. Towering in its impressive original full calf binding, it remains a textament of beauty, even in its shortcomings. In great shape externally and
Exceptional Example of Blaeu's Seminal 1638 "Nova Belgica"
Willem Blaeu Nova Belgica et Anglia Nova Date: 1638 Size: 15.5 x 20 inches(printed area) A beautiful old color example of one of the most important maps in the history of America. Blaeu’s 1638 Nova Belgica et Anglia Nova. Oriented to the west, this map covers the American coast from Virginia, past New York and Long Island to Cape Code, New England, and Quebec. It is cartographically derived from data accumulated by Adriaen Block and other Dutch fur traders active in the early 17th century. It is known for a number of important firsts, including the first full representation of Manhattan as an Island. It is one of the earliest to name Nieu Amsterdam. Some nomenclature has its origins in Blaeu's second Paskaert of c.1630, and others, such as Manatthans, in de Laet. The colony of Nieu Pleimonth is identified. This and other English names ... morealong that part of the coast are largely derived from Smith's New England, 1616. Cape Cod is here improved over the Block manuscript by being reconnected to the mainland, the narrow strait having been removed. The coastline between here and Narragansett Bay, which can be clearly recognized, is not so accurate. Adriaen Blocx Eylandt leads us to the Versche Rivier, or Connecticut River, which Block ascended as far as was possible. De Groote bay marks Long Island Sound. The Hudson River is still not named as such, but is littered with Dutch settlements, and the failed Fort Nassau is here depicted renamed as Fort Orange. He does, however, improve on the direction of its flow. Blaeu separates the sources of the Hudson and Delaware Rivers which had been causing some confusion. Nieu Amsterdam is correctly marked as a fort at the tip of an island separated on the east side by Hellegat, or the East River. The coastline south of Sandy Hook also shows signs of improvement. The whole map is adorned by deer, foxes, bears, egrets, rabbits, cranes and turkeys. Beavers, polecats and otters appear on a printed map for the first time. The Mohawk Indian village top right is derived from the de

Antique Map by Blaeu 1655 Xensi (Shaanxi) Province, China, Xian, Marco Polo
Title: Xensi(Shaanxi Province) Xensi. Imperii Sinarum Provincia Tertia. Description: This beautiful& decorative map of Xensi province. From Blaeu's magnificent atlas Novus Atlas Sinensis is based on the maps of Jesuit missionary Martino Martini. Features The Great Wall of China prominently and many place names and topographical details. The city of Xian( seen on map as Sigan) is located on the eastern portion of the map. Shaanxi province is surrounded by Shanxi to the North East. Henan to the East and Huquang( modern day Hubei) to the South east. The Gobi desert is shown north of Shaanxi. He decided to drop all other work and concentrate on producing the atlas of China Willem Janszoon Blaeu(1571-1638) as the founder of the Netherlands leading cartographic firm and a leading figure in Dutch cartography.
