Details Description: An antique 19th century copper engraving and hand ... morecolored map. This is a double page from the Long's Classical Atlas published in 1856. Here is page 7 having a map of Spain or Hispania as it was referred to in ancient times. The map shows Spain starting from the north at its border with Gallia(France) and continuing to the south to the straights of Hercules(today Gibraltar) This map was taken out of a damaged copy of the Long's Classical Atlas(see the last three photos) Which is not part of this sale. This sale is for the map only. These maps would look great once properly framed. They were engraved by GE Sherman Printed by Henry Seibert of New York. The maps show quite a bit of detail and are nicely colored. It shows cities, rivers, mountain ranges, water bodies and longitudinal and latitude lines with London being the zero. The cities are all named after their historic names rather than their modern names. Please carefully review photos as they are part and parcel of our description. Date: 1856. Origin: Printed in New York City. Size: The piece measures ~13" by ~10" Maker: Engraved by GE Sherman Printed by Henry Seibert. Distinguishing Characteristics- Most Interesting About The Piece: A very nice high quality antique map. Condition: The map is in excellent shape with minor foxing along the edges. This along with Tasmania's coast and a small portion of New Zealand's coastline. This map is the first to indicate N. Danemarck west of the Hudson Bay. Here named Mer Christiane. California is shown as an island. And Acoma and Santa Fe are noted in the Southwest, with Acoma shown correctly atop a mesa. Rare VICTORIAN ETHNOGRAPHY WORLD MAP 1896 Meyer Original Antique Litho Print
ETHNOGRAPHISCHE ANTIQUE MAP This auction is for an original. Antique lithograph plate which has been rescued from a disbound copy of'Meyers Konversations-Lexikon. Date Published: Printed in 1896 by Bibliographisches Institut. Leipzig, Germany Print size: 12 inches by 9 1/2 inches The lithograph has a characteristic patina which is natural for vintage paper. But is in good condition considering it is over 115 years old. The plate was folded inside the book and has the original centrefold, although this central line is more visible on the scanned image than the actual print up for auction. Although a general impression of the print can be seen from the image, it doesn't really capture the true detail and color quality of the original. The originator of the print up for auction was Joseph Meyer(May 1796- June 1856) who published the ... morerespected German encyclopedia. Meyers Konversations-Lexikon. Meyer was born in Gotha, Germany and was educated in Frankfurt. He operated very successfully as a publisher, and founded the publishing house, Bibliographisches Institut in Gotha in 1826. It published several editions of the Bible, works of classical literature, atlases, the world in pictures on steel engravings, and the encyclopaedia mentioned above, Meyers Konversations-Lexikon. Up for auction a Vintage 1967 Masketeers map. This is a authentic piece however it replicates The 1600's World Globe Map and is Brass Chipboard Wall Art. This Beautiful Masketeer World Map is in very good condition for its age with minor scuffs. And has some minor surface rust on the brass. I started to clean it up and the rust does come off with ease. I do not have the appropriate brass cleaner so i will leave it up to the new owner. For an original from 1967 this chipboard is in unbeliveble condition and who ever previously own it took oustanding care of it. The brass shines like its brand new and the detail of the art is beautiful. This oversized book measures approx. 14"x21" Cloth cover shows some wear, particularly along spine. Binding is intact, and pages are in good shape with no handwriting, creases, or tears noted. Edges show a frieze of flags above one of the conchology(shells) of the earth. It has an ornamental seashell motif border and an inner border consisting of the flags of the world(including Texas) fully colored.
