Andrees Allgemeiner Handatlas was a major cartographic work published in several German and foreign editions 1881-1937. It was named after Richard Andree(1835-1912) and published by Velhagen& Klasing, Bielefeld and Leipzig, Germany. By using chromolithography, rather than copper plate engraving, but reproducing the maps from zinc plates that were etched in relief(just like letterpress printing) V& K was able to offer detailed maps at a much lower price than competing works, such as the 7th and 8th editions of Stielers Handatlas. Artists and Engravers: Richard Andree(1835- 1912) was. Like his father Karl Andree, a German geographer noted for devoting himself especially to ethnography. His main work, however, is his Allgemeiner Handatlas(Leipzig, first edition 1881, final edition 1937) one of the most comprehensive world atlases of all times. The early editions of the Times Atlas of the World(1895-1900) are based on this atlas, as was Cassell's Universal Atlas. Likely it was, but few of them survived over the years. With the exception of a couple of pages of Statical Tables, the content is entirely COLOR MAPS. 22 in all. Strong impression on heavy handmade paper with margins all round. Willem Albert Bachiene(1712-1783) Dutch clergyman, later a professor of geography and astronomy at the Illustere School, Maastricht. Well known cartographer. The 3-volume"Heilige geographie of aardrijkskundige beschryving van het Joodsche land, alsmede andere landen in de H. Schrift voorkomende, is considered among his most important works. It was published in Utrecht between 1763-1768, and included a suite of 12 fine geographical maps of the Holy Land and its neighbouring lands which Bachiene made during a period of ten years, the first in as early as 1758. The map offered herewith ... moreis taken from this suite. Other important cartographic works of the Holy Land by Bachiene were included in the so-called"Jehovah Bible" i.e. De Gansche H. The map was engraved by Frenchman Jean Lattre in 1750 and was published in the French edition of Ansons book ... moreA Voyage round the World. In the Years MDCCXL, I, II, III,IV. The book was written by Richard Walter. Chaplin aboard Ansons flagship, Centurion. In his famous voyage(1740–44) around the world. Anson, in spite of shipwrecks and scurvy, inflicted great damage on Spanish shipping and returned to England with a rich prize. He was raised to the peerage after his popular naval victory(1747) off Cape Finisterre. Appointed then as first lord of the admiralty, he assisted William Pitt, Lord Chatham, in reorganizing naval administration. British navigators in the 1700`s were often interested in more than increasing the glory of God& Country. In September 1740 Commodore Anson set off across the Atlantic with six poorly manned. Ill-equipped vessels to capture Spanish treasure ships in the Pacific. He lost three ships rounding Cape Horn but went on to raid Spanish mining settlements on the coast of Chili. Although he and his crew suffered incredible hardships while crossing the Pacific in their one remaining ship, the Centurion. Anson managed to capture a Spanish treasure galleon near the Philippines. He sold this prize for £400,000 in Canton, China, the Centurion being the first
