A Trippensee Tellurian/Planetarium c1908 Trippensee Co. Detroit, MI Since antiquity man has attempted to explain the movement of the heavens that they observed with some of the most beautiful and complicated mechanical models. Tellurians are just one of these mechanical models that demonstrate the motions of the planets and moon in the solar system in a heliocentric model. After acquiring the Laing Co. in 1905 the three Trippensee brothers began to make improvements to the old cord driven pulley system and by 1908 created a more reliable operating system of chain and gear drives to operate the tellurian or planetarium. This operating system proved to be so sound that it is still implemented in planetariums today. With the new and improved planetarium the brothers eventually changed the name from Laing Planetarium to Trippensee. This mechanical model bears the name Trippensee and is operated by those very same chains and gears. Demonstrating the orbital relationship of the Earth, Moon and Venus relative to the Sun. The seller's sister-in-law is a lawyer in New Jersey and she ... morewas left this globe in the will of one of her wealthy clients. We do not have any additional provenance. The globe measures approximately 26" inches in diameter and has raised relief built up with some sort of plaster. The only date we can find is'Scott 1902' printed on one of the areas of Antarctica. It is all in German except for the company name and slogan on the side. This globe was brought to the Antique Roadshow in New Jersey a number of years ago. They gave it an estimated value of $1,500, but said it could sell much higher at auction because it is the only one of its kind. It comes on a three-sided wooden base with'North German Lloyd Bremen' printed on each side. The globe has a long screw mounted on the bottom that goes into the base. The base piece measures about 16" inches tall and 21" inchess along the bottom of each side. The hole in the top is somewhat stripped so the screw doesn't tighten any longer, and the pedestal piece on top of the base is somewhat loose. Antique Vintage Cram's RARE Lighted World GLOBE Thermometer Hygrometer Barometer
For sale is an antique. Or vintage, George Cram's lighted world globe on a wood base. In the wood base sits a thermometer, hygrometer and a barometer with a gold tone ring around each insert. This piece is in great vintage condition, but does have a bubble around the seam, or ecuador, near Colombia. To me the bubble wasn't noticable until I began to inspect the item. I have pictured this for you. Otherwise, the globe, light and wood base are all in excellent condition and do not have any other damages. I'm not sure how to test if the hygrometer or barometer, but the temp appears to be pretty close to the temp in my house. It also looks like each of these have an an adjustment piece on the bottom as well. The measures approximately 15 1/2 inches tall. 12 inches wide and 7 1/2 inches deep. Vintage/Antique? 12" World globe with cast iron base &surround CW Bacon Co. Lond
I don't know much about globes so I took a lot of pictures. I found this at a estate sale it says printed in England. C.W. Bacon Co. London. It is 12" trestrial globe with heavy cast iron base and surround. It says time tested school supplies. You can see the damage it has in the pics. Selling as is. I do not know the age but I did notice that Germany is not divided and I read that indicates pre 1945 but I didn't do any more research. If you have any questions please ask I will try to help.
