A Beautiful Classic Antique Map with Superb Color! Size: The map image measures approximately 10 1/2 by 13 inches on a 12 1/4 by 15 1/4" page with a margin all around as seen in the pic. Condition: It is in Good condition for its age. Basically as seen in the pics, with overall tonal aging and slight darkening around the edges. There are a couple of chips off the edge and a short edgetear, margins have been slightly cropped and some light handling around the margins, otherwise the map image is very clean in general with bright color and a nice antique quality that is rare to fine in this condition. It is printed on heavy paper, blank on the reverse with original handcolor as issued. The pics are of the actual map and very accurate of condition and color in general, however the actual map looks much better. The large vignette in the Atlantic portion of the map depicts a large gold mine operation with the natives filling a chest for the Europeans with the riches of their land. Inn the bottom left of the map is a fierce battle scene between many ships. The political divisions of North America are well defined for the period as they reflect the Treaty of Utrecht in 1713 and French expansion into Louisiana the following 10 years. Sanson/ Jaillot This is a wonderful example of Jaillot's map of North America during colonial times based on Sanson's original map(1656) This map displays a number of geographical features and lack thereof that make this map an exceptional example North American history. One most notable geographical feature is the famous depiction of California as an island. Dotted along its coast are names of places still current in California today such as Mendocino. Monterey, Francisco, S. Barbara, and S. Diego among others. The space above California has been left blank since north-western Canada and Alaska had yet to have been discovered by Europeans. In the north central part of the ... moremap lays Buttons Bay which is actually a very small bay within Hudson Bay. In this map however, it is depicted as a large open ended channel of water leading into an empty space on the map. This hinted at a possible shortcut to the Pacific known as the Northwest Passage. Many sailors and explorers lost their lives in search of such a route. One last geographic feature worth noting is the depiction of the Great Lakes. All of the lakes are misshapen, Superior and Michigan are left open ended, Michigan is shown to lay horizontally, Huron is shown to be much larger than it really is, Ontario is fed by a separate river, Erie is completely landlocked, and in there is a sixth lake named Lac Nissipirinien that does not exist. A decorative cartouche adorns the map with dedication to Le Dauphin, and his coat of arms in top. Featured below are eight distance scales within another cartouche. ANTIQUE PULL DOWN MAP SET IN BEAUTIFUL OAK CASE Set of 8 World Maps- Unrivaled Series 1 State Map of Kansas An amazing pull down map set in a beautiful oak cabinet. I have many more photos so PLEASE CONTACT ME with your email and I will send them to you. I have shown several maps. In varying conditions. The description of the maps follows and I have photos of all maps. This is a beautiful Oak Cabinet with a nice set of 9(8 matching) pull down maps. There is one state map of Kansas that does not belong to the series. It appears to be quite old, but has no date that I can find. The remaining 8 maps are from a series titled"Unrivaled Maps" and include: North America, South America, Asia, United States, Africa, Europe, Western Hemisphere and Eastern Hemisphere. I have not been able to find a date on these maps but I believe they are ... moreearly 1900's. I will try to describe each of these as best I can and I have many additional photos that I have available to send to you if you are interested. The oak case measures 47" in length. 18" in height and is 4 1/2" deep. It is quarter-sawn oak and is well made and old. The front of the cabinet is hinged and opens to display maps and allow them to be"pulled-down" Each map is held in by a pin on one side and a slot on the other. The front of the cabinet has hook and eye closures on both side and a lock on the front(which I do NOT have a key for) It is a beautiful cabinet and is excellent condition. Maps All 9 of the maps are in used condition. None are pristine and several are in bad condition. I believe of the 9 I would rate 3 as being in good. 3 in fair and 3 in poor condition. The North America, Asia and United States maps are in good condition with areas of fraying along the edges and bottom, creases and soiling and some minor tears. The bottom wood pulls are present but have come loose from the maps in some areas. These three maps pull down and retract well. There were a total of 61 maps in the Atlas I WILL SEND A COPY OF THE DATED(1885) TITLE PAGE TO THIS ATLAS. WITH THE MAPS FOR YOUR RECORDS. these are a multi-color lithograph maps with heavy attractive glossy lithographic ink. The maps were done by Juluis Bien Co. which was the finest lithographer of the period. They are on a glossy thick high quality paper that is blank on the reverse side. THE CONDITION IS VERY GOOD. Up for auction is a rare lot of four(4) enormous color maps. All comprising a complete and highly detailed view of the Adirondack Park. The maps were published by the STATE OF NEW YORK FOREST. FISH and GAME COMMISSION in 1908. And all are in FINE condition. All four maps are, as issued, tucked inside a case bound in forest green cloth, with intact black string tie at opening edge. The maps each cover a different quadrant of the area surrounding and including the park, with a Northwest, Southwest, Northeast and Southeast map. Each map measures about 30" x 39" When they are put together, they form an enormous 60" x 78" map(five feet by six and a half feet. No holes in folds, and maps appear to have never been displayed, used, or mounted. Fantastically well preserved. Contains detailed information on this important park, ... morethe formation of which helped launch the National Parks movement at the end of the 19th century. Detailed information on the different grants that made this enormous park, which occupies a huge area in upstate New York. Item Description Here are two matte mounted aqntique maps by A. Fullarton c. 1845. I'm not sure if they are counties or districts or what but one depicts the map of Suffolk and the other Hertfordshire. These are hand colored maps and are in fantastic condition. The maps themselves measure approx. 10" x 8" The frames are approx. 17" x 14" The backs of the frames are sealed but the one with the Suffock map will have to be opened to reset the glass and matte as it is loose in the frame. CYCLISTS AND GOLFERS, 2' by george philip and son ltd. double paged maps of certain road areas around the liverpool, manchester area, showing the main motoring roads, information on towns in the area, lists of hotels, lists of golf courses, and blank touring record sections in the back to keep a record of the journey. Cant find a publication date on it, but would guess it as around 1910, due to the art nouveau decorations on the front cover. There is some general wear, mainly to the cover and edges of the pages, some slight age browning in places, but otherwise in a good condition.
