1875 Map of Carlisle Massachusetts and of Bedford MA - Original Antique Maps
Here's a two-fer for you. On this single sheet from the F.W. Beers Atlas of Middlesex County in 1875 there is a map of Carlisle Massachusetts on one side and a map of Bedford Mass on the other. Beautifully handcolored maps. Carlisle in pale pink and Bedford in yellow gold, on a sheet that measures approx. 15" by 12" Unlike much of what you find online nowadays, these are originals. A real treat to see if you're from Bedford or from Carlisle or live or work there now. These maps are very handsome when framed and always fun to pore over. If you own a business in either town this would make a great addition to your office or store. If you're a real estate agent who sells properties in Carlisle or in Bedford there's no better gift for a new homeowner. Or find someone with a large-bed scanner and make copies to sell as ... morea local fundraiser(or here on ebay! If you have a house in Carlisle or Bedford that dates back to the early 1870s or before the map is a super way to add to your knowledge of your house's history. The map shows you the name of the owner in 1875. I used one of these maps myself as a springboard to trace my own house's lineage. Some of the natural features in Carlisle on the map include: Pages Brook. Concord River, Iron Ore Spring, Tophet Swamp, Bellow Hill, Patch Meadow Brook, and Rail Tree Hill. Points of interest identified on the Carlisle map include: a Hoop Factory. Town Farm, Grist Mill, Copper Mine, school houses#2, 3, 4 and#5, Cider Mill, Unitarian Church, and the Congregational Church and Parsonage. There's also a small inset close-up map of the center of town. Here the houses are shown in outline so if you have an older house in Carlisle center it will show the house's footprint in 1875 as well as the homeowner. One other interesting notation is a small rectangular piece of land in Carlisle not far from the border with Concord but definitely within Carlisle. It is marked"Belongs to Concord. Antique Geographia World Maps Alexander Gross pre 1922 125 maps
I am offering for sale my own LARGE collection of approx. 125 Alexander Gross Geographia World Maps I believe these all to be of a single publication date of between 1918 and 1922. With earlier Geographia maps having no publication or Cumberland date code I cannot be totally sure of the exact date. However the subject of some of the maps fully support this date. For Instance the maps of the German Colony Repossessions, and Ireland before Partition. These maps were produced centre folded to be edge mounted. But these have always been loose so have not suffered any perforation. There is as expected some edge discolouration and moisture marking on the paper consistent with their age. But this has not affected the quality of the printed image. In fact for 90 plus years old, they are remarkable, with none of the damage to the fold you would normally ... moresee, and no sunlight fading. I initially intend to sell these as one lot. As to find a collection of this size is now very uncommon, and it would be a shame to split. Individual sheets if you look worldwide. Are achieving very good prices of between £15- £40, as they make ideal candidates for framing. Size of each map inclusive of the unprinted border is 26" x 20" Scale does vary but main Country Maps are 1:2825000 There are a considerable number of maps. Contents are holding firmly though damp-stained throughout toward upper edges, most severe to the first twenty-five maps plus prelims, the second half(which includes Greece, World, Middle East/India, and the Americas) less severely affected, most maps are stained on mostly outer edge of map. The map paper is not brittle and there are no tears, cuts, chipping or markings on maps other than stains. Some general light dust-soiling and finger-marking. We have for your consideration this fantastic and wonderful estate find( Antique School Maps over 36" wide~Wood Wall Storage Case) We found this from an antique dealer in Arcadia Valley in South Eastern Missouri who told me that it came from an old school house in the area. The antique Map Wall case includes maps of the USA~ASIA~AFRICA& EUROPE. Please Note: This is a large listing with much to read and see. To the best of our ability. We wanted you to really experience this map set. So that you can make an accurate decision on your investment. The Custom made case is made of a hard wood(possibly oak) It was manufactured as you can see by the Brass Identification Plate by the A.H. ANDREWS CO. CHICAGO ILL. The case may have had a few repairs in the last 100 years or so. But over all is in good usable condition. The right front panel ... morehas some light surface buckling only on the outside surface. The inside looks nice. There is a small piece of wood or sliver that has been cracked and broken off on the back edge of the top board. Not noticeable and does not affect the use of the cabinet) and you will see a small paint splatter specks mostly on that same top board or what you might call a shelf area. The outside dimensions measures approximately 45 1/4 inches wide by 14 inches tall by 4 inches deep. To explore the maps you simply release the hooked hasps located on each outside edge of the door. The door is mounted with good strong hinges will lower into its resting place revealing the maps. This nice old case also has a functional lock on the front top of the drop down door. The front lock cover is made of what appears to be Copper. It uses a very basic"L" shaped key that should be easy to find or even have one made. The back of the case is still in good usable condition although it does show its age. This case holds 4 maps total. And all appear to be original to the case.
