But this appears to be a wonderful atlas concerning the history of the Catholic Church. It is written in French, and contains 24 double page maps that are hand colored. Most maps are large, a few pages contain smaller maps. Each page measures over 11.5" by 17" The date is 1887. The maps in this Atlas are quite fascinating. Not only do they show different countries and continents. They also show history. They came out more white on my camera for some reason. The paper is not white. The maps are all complete with no water damage or rips, but there are some age spots and places where the hand coloring of the borders and rivers has seeped through to the back of the page a little. The spine is loose and split along the top of the front cover. The corners of the covers are worn. The first few pages have some chips out of the paper at the top, but it doesn't come anywhere near the map outline. These unique maps are suitable for framing. This book is sold in aged, as-is condition! I have described this to the best of my ability but please feel free to ask questions, I am not an expert on books. I have. For your consideration, a very rare set of early maps. I believe these may be by one of Americas first map makers, Mathew Carey of Philadelphia. They were made in Philadelphia in 1799. These are original, hand colored copper engravings-they almost look like original drawings. These original maps are quite rare and. To find a set of them is highly unusual! The two double maps measure approx. 22&1/2" by 12" while the world map measures about 17" by 12" Condition is as pictured-a lot of foxing stains throughout and the glass is missing from the Americas maps. Its amazing to think that these were valuable antiques when they were framed and that they were framed 100 years ago! This listing is for a nice big lot of vintage/antique National Geographic Maps. There are 56 maps. From 1922 to 1964. The maps are in good condition, but they do show light to moderate wear. It is not a mint condition lot. The earlier maps show a little more wear, and are a bit more fragile. Maps with flaws to point out will be mentioned in the following list.
