The maps are a two page section removed from George Franklin Cram’s“The Knowledge Atlas-Geographical-Astronomical- and Historical 1889” publication copyrighted in 1888. Each page measures about 11 X 13 ½ inches. The North America map accommodates two pages and is backed by a map of Canada and one of the Polar Regions both on single pages. The maps are too big for my scanner so I have used only partial scans except for the double page which is a photo. The pages were“Tipped in” and the fold is indistinguishable. The maps are in excellent condition noting some light browning on some of the margins and the remains of the taping on the margin of the Polar map. The maps will be shipped flat. Antique Geographia World Maps Alexander Gross pre 1922 LARGE COLLECTION
I am offering for sale my own LARGE collection of approx. 125 Alexander Gross Geographia World Maps I believe these all to be of a single publication date of between 1918 and 1922. With earlier Geographia maps having no publication or Cumberland date code I cannot be totally sure of the exact date. However the subject of some of the maps fully support this date. For Instance the maps of the German Colony Repossessions, and Ireland before Partition. These maps were produced centre folded to be edge mounted. But these have always been loose so have not suffered any perforation. There is as expected some edge discolouration and moisture marking on the paper consistent with their age. But this has not affected the quality of the printed image. In fact for 90 plus years old, they are remarkable, with none of the damage to the fold you would normally ... moresee, and no sunlight fading. I initially intend to sell these as one lot. As to find a collection of this size is now very uncommon, and it would be a shame to split. Individual sheets if you look worldwide. Are achieving very good prices of between £15- £40, as they make ideal candidates for framing. It is a revised edition illustrating the new boundaries and territorial changes effected by the Peace Treaties from World War One. The book measures 14" x 10 ¾" It has a red cloth covered hardcover, with black lettering. There are 40 plain backed maps. Which would be suitable for framing if required, plus a 32 page index to place names. The maps are printed on a high quality smooth paper. But the index pages and endpapers are a softer and thicker type of paper. The map pages are in GOOD CONDITION. With only slight signs of general ageing and no tears or marks, apart from Map 1(The World) which has a tiny burn mark(see photo below) The endpapers have light foxing and a few small edge chips. The hard cover is slightly worn on the inner binding. There is some corner wear and a small split at the bottom corner of the spine. Huge 1892 New Hampshire Town & City Atlas 17x15 - Genealogy With Antique NH Maps
This is one of the more popular New Hampshire atlases for collectors. But unfortunately this one is not a complete atlas, nor in great shape. If you're reading this you're probably familiar with this atlas already, but what makes this special is the individual houses for each town are labeled with the owners name- a true gem for genealogical purposes. You can see who used to live in your house or where ancestors used to live. The atlas measures 17.5" x 15" This is a great opportunity to be able to use individual maps without ruining a good atlas. For sale is a lot of 44 vintage/antique travel guides/ Maps and brochures from 1950-1960’s. Odds are. There are older and newer ones than that but I did not look at all of the dates, I just saw a few going though that fell into that age range seeing some I found had no marking that I could find. These guides are from all over the United States, Canada, Mexico and even from overseas. Condition varies greatly some are pretty good others not so much take a look at the pictures and judge for yourself. There are stains, folds, creases, and small tears/tears in some, there is a musty smell as well. Overall this is a great collection of vintage travel guides and brochures and would make a great addition to your collection. Because of the way it was folded. It may have been from a pocket Atlas published around the same time as the Atlas map by Carey and Warner. I believe it is part of the Carey and Warner pub of 1816 Measuring approximately 10 1/8" by 8 1/4" Based upon the info given. By: Johann Baptist Homann This is a remarkably detailed map showing the majority of North America with a more specific focus on the interior. Mississippi, and Great Lakes Region. Throughout the map, forts, towns, and Native American tribe locations are listed while the rest of the interior is filled with trees, mountains, and a scene of natives hunting buffalo. The map features two beautiful cartouches; one showing a Buffalo flanked by two Native Americans, and another showing a beaver colony at the base of Niagara Falls. The title cartouche is decorated by a buffalo head, next to Father Louis Hennepin who explored the Great Lakes region and claimed to have reached the mouth of the Mississippi. His purported route and those of other explorers are traced on the map. Condition: Map ... moreis in C+ condition with some staining. Minor edge tears, and no right margin. These two large maps show splendid detail of coastal features of western Africa from 18 degrees north latitude(Portendik) to 3 degrees north latitude(Bight of Pannavia) I nternal features a re much less well known. A note on Lake Tchad(which is mapped only on the western end) reads"In the centre and to the North East it is full of Islands inhabited by a people called Biddoumahs. Who have 1000 Canoes. Its length is said to be five days sail. This is an interesting set of maps to study. Outlined in original hand coloring. Maps are in good condition with some wear on margins. 2 Antique Maps Laid Paper Dusseldorf & Kiel, Germany John B. Homann
Yes. There are 2 antiq. maps in this listing. I can not interpret all of them completely. But 1 has the Homann(Homan) name on it. The one without an identifying name is this map of Dusseldorf. Germany. I also think the city legend is incomplete; as there are only 2 churches named. Strong Colors. There is a Coat of Arms in the upper right corner. A few partially erased pencil marks in the lower right corner; and most of the wrinkles are what I would refer to as'soft wrinkles' a 1" tear in the lower left + 1/2" a little higher. Repaired with archival tape(remove w/water) I do not think there is anything referred to as any'fold creases' The 2nd photo shows the front with large margins about 3 1/8" top& 2 1/8"bottom. 2 3/4" left& almost 3" right. I think the river translates into the Rhein ... moreRiver. There is a photo showing what I believe is known as Laid Paper(or linen/rag? Whatever the name is; it shows what looks like a'chain'like watermark) The back has minor blemishes from storage. Paper size is about 16 1/2"h x 23 1/2"w. No frame. The 2nd map is of Kiel. Germany; the Klein Kiel& Kieler Haafen. There are 2 legends in the upper corners& a Bird's Eye View insert of the city. I think the cartuch states the plans& proposed sights attributed by office of Homania(John B. Homann or Homan) Again. Please note these are my interpretations! The margin is about 3/4" top and bottom 1" with both left& right margins almost 3" each. Paper size 16 1/2"h x 23 1/2w" Strong Colors. There is a'star compass' A few partially erased pencil marks in the lower right corner; mostly'soft wrinkles' and hardly anything that I would refer to as'fold creases' The back has minor blemishes from storage. There is a photo showing Laid Paper(chain-like watermark. When held to light) No tears. No frame. ~ ~ ~ I did NOT notice a date on either of these maps. But they are on the old Laid Paper. ~ ~ ~ Boy.
