This is a beautiful Mercury Glass Butler Ball. Gazing Globe or Witches Ball, sometimes also referred to as a Globe Top Finial. The blown piece glass mirrored ball is firmly affixed to black glass pedestal. Overall dimensions are 4 1/2" high x 3" in diameter across the ball. Excellent condition with no scratches or pitting. Probably ca 1850 maker unknown. There are no markings. This rare and wonderful mercury glass butler's ball. Would have been set on a buffet and used by servants to observe guests without being obtrusive, so they could look in the reflection to see when their services would be needed. They were also known as silent butlers and only used in the most affluent homes. 1920's brass embossed Globe Underwriters Agency New York sign mounted in an oak frame. Lettering and graphics painted black. Greek key design border. Measures 25" by 19 1/4" total. Globe Underwriters of New York insurance company operated during the 1920's. Brass sign and oak frame appear to be all original with the exception of the metal hanger that was added to the back of the frame at some recent point. There are two vintage WWII USMC large Eagle Globe Anchor EGA right& left lapel/collar pins complete with screw on backers remaining on both showing some minor corrosion to screw studs securely attached to backsides of both pins. Included with lapel pins is a 4 1/4" long Dress Uniform Ribbon Bar with three different sections to ribbon that also has three small brass stars attached to center section of bar& both pins and backers one on each side of bar still remaining. There are a few rust spots or stains on one end of bar as seen in pics. Nice Lightning rod globe in my other auction Up for auction is a lightning rod and weathervane with diddie-blitzen rods globe. The globe has a small chip to the top lip but is fine. The weathervane part has the original red glass and has the extra security of a wire along the back side of it helping hold it in place. This was from an estate in Port Washington. Ohio that had been in the same family for over 125yrs, this one appears to have been struck a time or two due to the blackness on the globe. It has the original bottom rod holder and nails. We have for your viewing and bidding pleasure an antique lightning rod globe. It is made out of white porcelain glass. It is about 5” high by 5” wide. The globe is round in shape. It is in good condition with no breaks or cracks. Where the rod goes through on one end it is just a little slightly rough and on the other end it has a couple of flake chips. Normally when the globe is installed on the lightning rod there is a metal collar that goes around the holes where the lightning rod goes through. We do not have any of those. We do not know for sure but we believe they possibly could be found on the internet. From outside edge to outside edge these holes where the rod goes through measure 1 1/8” across. For your consideration is this Antique Mandolin Round Bowlback Mother of Pearl Inlay Globe Musical Instrument Co. The mandolin measures approximately 24 1/2" long by 7 3/4" wide and 6" deep. The sticker inside reads: Globe Musical Instrument Co. The Globe Registered, NEW YORK#3388. Features: Beautiful mother-of-pearl inlay around the sound hole and outer edges. Tortoise shell pick guard. The mandolin also has mother-of-pearl inlay position marks on the fingerboard. The rounded back has 21 small ribs flanked by two larger ribs joining the back to the body. The tuning pegs are celluloid or possibly ivory and the fret board appears to be rosewood. This is an 8-string mandolin and appears to date from the early 1900's. CONDITION: Near the inlaid sound hole on the mandolin there is one darker spot on the finish. Along the edge ... moreof the front of the mandolin there is some residue. Not sure what it is. There is some minor spots or soiling on the front. There are a couple tiny splits on the tortoise shell but no chips or missing pieces. There is some age splits on the rosewood fret board but it is intact with no chips. There is a tiny separation between one of the small ribs on the bowlback of the mandolin. There is also a couple spots with some sort of residue located on the bowlback of the mandolin as well. This is an old and very tall lightning rod with a very attractive milk white color globe with"Electra" printed on it in raised letters. The tall pointed rod has a point at the top and is non-magnetic. I believe it is copper. The frame work is magnetic. The frame extends out at the bottom with 3 feet measuring about 18" apart. The white globe is a bit unique having the word"Electra" printed on it. Each end of the globe has some rough edges or chips which is not unusual for these globes. It looks very good on the rod. These lightning rods and globes make very nice outdoor or yard decorations and would even be a very unusual and interesting indoor accent.

Item is a 6 inch antique Globe from Ohio Art. Using a"How Old Is Your Globe" web site. I estimate it dates from near 1925. On this globe Christiania is capital of Norway. Name was changed to Oslo in 1925. Petrograd became Leningrad in 1924. Leningrad is on this globe. So many countries and places are different than today. A good portion of west Africa is referred to as French West Africa. On the east coast of Africa is Abyssinia, now Ethiopia. Iran is Persia. Much of Antarctica is labeled"Unexplored" An interesting feature of this globe is that several ocean routes are signified with dotted lines. Along line are cities and mileage, for example San Francisco to Yokohama 6598 Miles. Globe and support is made of steel. Base is wood. Base has 6 inch diameter. Globe is dented in several places. Dents are about fingerprint size ... moreor smaller. It reminds me of our car after it was out in a hail storm. There are only a few small spots where the painted finish of globe is scraped off. Clear- Accurate-Up-to-date' Russia is listed as'Union of Soviet Society Republic' and shows Tannu-Tuva and Mongolia. Kasakastan is the same shade of color as Russia. Guessing it is pre-WWII era. Antique 1 Drawer Oak File Box from Post Office Rare Filing Vintage Globe NR
This is a real find! My husband worked for the Postal Service. And obtained this vintage card file box when they tore down the old facility and built a new one. It is a rare file box, with"GLOBE" stamped into the top above the drawer(assume it is the name of the company who made it) it is of heavy dark oak, and is in very good condition. Of course, it shows its age and use(it was a functioning card storage box for the letter carriers) but it still looks great. The inside slide adjuster works perfectly. I included several pictures from all angles, including the bottom. The size of the box: 12" long; 5 1/2" high; 7 1/4" across. Holds 3x5 cards. Weight is 7 pounds. 10 ounces.
