Hammond's Comprehensive Atlas on the World 1915 Map of Alaska
Imaginative& creative birthday. Christmas, weddings, or other special occasion gift; and ideal for framing. The antique map was taken from Hammond’s Comprehensive Atlas of the World published in 1915. Great for family history as the map shows political boundaries. Countries, cities, towns, and landmarks of prior to 1915; some of which may no longer exist. Unframed so you can select a frame and matting that matches your décor. The total size of the two pages measures approximately 13 1/8” x 9 ¼” While the map itself, varies in size somewhat, but generally measures approximately 11” x 8 3/8” The map itself is dated somewhere in the ten-year period prior to publication of the atlas. Of the 62 map listings. 58 of them are made up of a two-page map that was center-bound in the atlas. This means that the maps are in two-parts. For ... moredisplay purposes they require that the un-illustrated portion near the center-binding be cut away from both pages. This will bring the two halves of the map into alignment. In some cases there is staining on the map pages. Most of that takes place in the border area, but it does impact some maps. The map of Ireland has a significant tear at the top which. If framed, would, for all intents, be hidden. Keep in mind that there are partial maps of other geographical areas on the reverse side of the map. Please be aware that these National Geographic Maps are between 30 to 80 years old. They are printed on paper that is not acid free and in most cases have not been stored in the best way. So the maps you are buying will be in a condition that reflects both of these facts. The map you get may be worn along the fold lines due to the acidity of the paper and being folded for years. Some of them also have been written on with the date and location. Usually on back but sometimes on the edges. They may also have tiny holes beginning to form where the fold lines meet. They may also be discolored or mottling spots again due to the acidity of the paper. The borders of the maps may also have small ... moretears. On occasion maps may smell musty from the way they have been stored in the past. When the map is kept in an open area the musty smell will fade away in time. Large map of Alaska. Two folds as issued. It was taken from a salvaged antique atlas. It measures 21 1/2 X 13 1/2 inches. Copyright by the Matthew-Northrup Co. Map has copyright of 1898. But has population figures for 1900, so we must assume it was printed after 1900. It shows the gold mining from Canada and Alaska. Paper shows normal aging and is still supple. Not stiff where it would crack at slightest bump. This map would look fantastic framed under glass. A true historical item. Investment quality. But they came out of a loose leaf binder that has a copyright date of 1919, see above scan of copyright date. Map will come carefully rolled in kraft paper and inside a strong pvc mailing tube. Alaska Canada Boundary Historic Antique Map ATLAS LOT Set Vintage RARE 1903
Rare and historic find here! PLEASE read entire description before bidding or buying! These were used by the Alaskan Boundary Tribunal to determine the boundaries between Canada and Alaska. I believe there were only a few hundred ever published. Lot or set of 4 large sized hard covers. Each measures about 15 ½ x 19 inches! Condition unless otherwise mentioned: inside pages are good, some rough edges, minor blemishes, I see nothing bad enough to note. Covers show moderate to heavy wear with lots of light blemishes, scuffs and scratches, more wear to cover edges. These do have a storage scent, it is obvious but not overpowering and they might air out a bit. Bindings are a bit weak, as should be expected for books this age and size. Then, ATLAS ACCOMPANYING THE CASE OF THE UNITED STATES BEFORE THE TRIBUNAL CONVENED AT LONDON, 1903, this is in the worst condition, inside is okay though pages have minor blemishes and somewhat ragged edges, maps seem okay, binding weak and a split inside front cover, the first couple blank pages are loose but present. Cloth cover faces are off and the boards are exposed, spine is gone, back cover loose but present. 25 maps. And finally, ATLAS OF AWARD. Vintage 1936 Pictorial Advertising Poster Map Alaska Steamship Co Art Deco Totem
Here is a beautiful vintage Advertising and Pictorial Map of Alaska and its vast Surrounding Territory- a promotional poster map put-out by the shipping company The Alaska Steamship Company showing the" Alaska Line" This map is dated 1936. It is designed and executed in the distinctive Art Deco style and format that was prevalent in that era. The Great Depression, which was also the Goden Age of the Pictorial Map. Actually, the poster has 3 maps on it: the main map at center showning all of Alaska(no easy feat) The Yukon, the surrounding oceans. And the extreme eastern tip of Russia(the Soviet Union then) a"perimeter" map showing travel distances- the perimeter being North America; and. A 9" x 7" insert map showing Southern Alaska. The entire map is 29 3/4" x 20 1/2" The map was published and printed ... moreby Frank McCaffrey. Seattle. No illustrator is named. The map is very colorful in greens. Reds, blues, black, yellow, tan, and shades of these colors. On the left and right the map is framed by totem pole symbology. I like the way the cartographer lays out the totem poles in the Art Deco style; I believe it's very unique to this map. Within the top and bottom borders wording and lettering predominate. And these are also clearly Art Deco. This map is in excellent well preserved condition. It is printed on very thin paper. Which makes its top shelf condition all the more remarkable. The map is folded. As originally. In half; each have having 8 equal sized panels. Please see the Description Section where I go into a lot of detail about the map's condition. There are several inserts of art work within the map. Such as the Key which is"supported" by a Kodiak Bear and a seal. The cartography on this map/poster/advertisement is excellent. Beautifully engraved, hand coloured uncommon, original antique map of NW America from California to Alaska& Eastern Russia- after Gerhard Muller's map of 1754-was published by P Santini(fl. ... more1776-84) in his 2 volume edition of Atlas Universal in 1776. This Santini/Remondini edition is state 3 of Muller's map. It is an uncommon edition and is a fascinating addition to any collection of the Pacific Northwest. This map is an updated version of Gerhard Muller's landmark map of 1754 showing the discoveries of Captains Bering and Tschirikow who landed on the west coast of Canada. Muller was a German scholar who worked for the Russian Imperial Academy of Sciences. He originally published his map in response to Joseph Delisle and Philippe Buache's map that showed previously unknown Russian discoveries and an elaborate(and entirely speculative) depiction of the imaginary voyage of Admiral De Fonte through a Northwest Passage. Muller's original version showed an elongated landmass roughly in the shape of the Alaskan Peninsula and the Aleutian Islands. The map was updated several times. Most significantly in 1773 after the expedition of Lt. Ivan Synd in which the elongated peninsula was shortened in favor of a large group of islands. Interestingly the speculative Northwest Passage is still shown nearly connecting to Hudson Bay via a mythical River of the West.

Important 1827 map of Kodiak Island. Alaska, from the rare Vandermaelen atlas Here is an original 1827 map by Philippe Vandermaelen. It is from his"Atlas Universel de Geographie" Folio(folded once as issued) Brussells, 1827. This was the world's first large atlas on a uniform scale. The Atlas Universel was one of the most remarkable atlases ever made. With over 400 maps on a uniform scale, and completed in only three years. There are tracks of Captain Joseph Billings(Route du Capitaine Bilings en 1790" And Captain James Cook. Size overall(including margins) is 20 ⅞ inches X 26 ¼ inches. The actual"printed area" is 18 ¾ high by 22 ¾ inches wide. There is slight foxing. Here and there, to the paper. There are a few tiny holes at the fold where the map was stitched into the atlas. The map has good ... moreoverall even tonality. The picture of the whole map looks a little dark and green near the bottom, that is just from shadows and camera angle and does not represent the true color. The upper part of the map color is more accurate for the whole map. This map shows the region that includes all of Kodiak Island. Homer, part of the Alaska Peninsula, Sand Point, Shumagin Islands, Lake Iliamna, and part of Montague Island. A very interesting and decorative and rare map of Russian America, with Kodiak at the center. Please be advised that most of the bidding occurs in the LAST 5 SECONDS of the auction. But beware.
