Heavy bronze industrial or marine masthead light by Durkee Marine Products Corp. Staten Island NY off from an old liberty ship that was broken up in South Portland Maine. Condition with the exception of cleaning is very good with just a minor chip out of the clear glass lens but no cracks or breaks. Wired for 110 volts but should be rewired if you intend to use. Vintage Antique Durkee Marine Galvinized Huge Ship Lantern Staten Island NY
Very Large Vintage Antique Ship's Lantern Old estate find. This is a very large lantern made by Durkee Marine Products of Staten Island, NY. It is made of an old galvanized metal. With an iron folding handle on the top. The handle has a loop for hanging. There is a large round shade, and a heavy thick glass shade. The lantern is flat in the back where it looks like it would be mounted. Somewhere along the way. Someone decided to electrify the lantern. There is an electric cord that comes out through the top and a light fixture inside. The cord has a plug and a switch. The bottom piece that I guess was the oil tank at one time has a cut out opening that is used to access the light bulb. There is some wear to the finish as you would expect with the age, and there is the opening in the bottom. Lantern measures 26" tall to the top of ... morethe handle. AUTHENTIC ANTIQUE SHIP’S LANTERN Steel body. Brass grille, ruby-red glass Fresnel lens. Condition: no dents nor cracks. Mfg. by DURKEE MARINE PRODUCTS CORP. STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. Appears to have been designed to burn oil(see photos) History: In the early l960’s. I purchased this lantern from a marine salvage yard in San Francisco. I disassembled everything and had the metal parts dipped to remove decades of paint and crud. And then sprayed the metal parts with clear matte acrylic. The objective was to just clean it up; not to make it look new nor“restored” At that time we had a waterfront weekend place on Bethel Island. CA, in the Sacramento/San Joaquin Delta area. Our dining table was placed before a window which overlooked Piper Slough. Where we moored our boat, and Frank’s Tract(lake) This lantern was hung above the table and centered in ... morethe window. During the wiring to accommodate 110/120V“shore power” I installed a small pull-chain switch at the bottom of the lantern. Here’s how it worked: If the adults were gathered round the table sippin. Dippin. And grinnin, we might prefer the red“mood light” only. If the kids were playing checkers. They would pull the chain to activate the down-light. There is ample space for a Par38 halogen floodlight. The beacon is lighted by three other internal lamp sockets illuminating the Fresnel lens. Hanging chain and canopy(as shown) included. Light bulbs not incl. too fragile) I fondly remember returning from many a sunset cruise. Guided to our dock by this stunning piece of genuine nautical history. Land ho. Mates, man the lines!
