Vintage Caged Brass Nautical Oil Lantern
Vintage nautical oil lantern. It has a really cool cage that covers the entire outside of the lantern to protect the glass. There is a wooden handle and the oil container and wick assembly was made by Wedge. It has not been polished or cleaned up at all since I bought it so all the patina is still on it. This Vintage Brass Marine Lantern is marked English Made on the wick adjuster. It measures 16 1/2 by 7 3/4 inches. It is hand crafted with rivets and solder. The work shows very good quality. It is in very good condtion with a couple of very small hard to find dents. The top and the globe unscrew to fill the tank. They are stuck with old fuel varnish and I do not intend to forcefully remove them. The wick moves up and down when the wheel is turned. The glass plates and globe are very good. This lens is 3 1/4" in diameter on the bottom~~the inside diameter on the bottom is 2 1/2"~~height is 2" This glass has survived quite well for it's age. The are no chips. Cracks or scratches. There are 2 chips on the flange which will never be seen. When this piece of glass was made, some specs were incorporated in the molten glass and those are the spots you see in my pics. This is the real deal and it was used. Someone at some point of time made it electrical light. The glass has a few chips in the extremely thick glass. There is a couple small dents. But you can't hardly tell with the colors of the lantern. This lantern is unmarked. It is very solid and well made. The lantern measures approximately 21"x11" With the handle up it is about 23.5" in height. It weighs a heavy 17lbs 12oz. We assume since this is from the sea and very old that it is made of brass. Complete with an Inner Brass Oil Kerosene Lantern Burner It has a Wide Hanging Handle, Punched Vents. It is in Good-very good Vintage Condition, There is expected tarnish/patina present There is a small non sharp chip on the top door glass within the beveling. Ther door hinge is a little warped but it closes and latches ok measurement are: 13-1/2"tall including the handle. Approximately 4" wide across the lantern body, 5-1/4"wide across glass pane's x 51/4" wide across bottom. The oil container unscrews for filling, there is an unused wick inside the oil container.
