It has a wire cage all the way around that attaches to the main supports, it has NO chips in the glass. Maritime Navigational Lanterns.The main housing is constructed of galvanized iron and ... morethe top cover is copper. However they have not been shined up. The original manufacturer was Wilcox& Crittenden& Co. There trademark was Capital W with a Capital C embossed on top of one another. The factory was in Middletown, CONN. USA. There is a photo of the Logo which appears to be embossed on brass, it is on the side, located on top of a metal sleeve, which is riveted on the lantern itself. This sleeve must have been used to slip over something to hold it secure to the ship. Both sleeves are intact and extremely secure. This embossing is very difficult to capture in a photo as the glare, and clarity of a photo so close. The lanterns stand just shy of 13" tall with the hanging loop standing up. They are made to fit in a corner. The sides measure 5" With the front curving around to meet the 2 sides. The glass itself is 5" tall and is almost 90 degrees. One lantern has fresnel green glass for the starboard, and the lantern with the fresnel red glass is for the port. The glass on both lanterns is in very good shape and have no cracks or chips. The metal round accesses to the oil chambers/wicks are both present and appear tight when screwed in. The wick chambers need cleaning, but seem to work, and even have wick left in them! We didn't attempt to light them, but knowing something about oil lanterns, don't see any reason they wouldn't work, however this isn't a guarantee. just presenting things honestly. The metal. Nowhere, on either lantern shows any sign of rust. However they are a brown color. Paint appears to be old, in some places chipping, or peeling off. There are the usual signs of true usage. Wear and tear. Overall appear to be in very good shape. I have not checked them for leakage, however on inspection, I don't see any reason they would leak. I have no idea how old they are. This item has me puzzled. I don't know if is made of copper and then brass coated or if is brass. It is embossed"HEKLICHT" on top. The glass front has a logo which is a triangle with 3 Gs on it. In the bottom it is marked"DHR Netherlands 07-02" It has some tarnish and oxidation. I hope you can see that in the pictures. It is very nicely made and it appears old but, I am not an expert in this items so it might not be very old. I have had it for about 7 years or so and bought it from an estate sale. It has not been used by me and when I bought it the wick was brand new. It still is. There is a some damage in the fluid container. The base of the lamp is also bordered with fisherman's rope giving the lamp a real nautical look. The bronze lantern is 16" tall, 7" in diameter, and has caged in glass with a flickering bulb inside. Very Rare PURPLE Masthead Signal Lantern made by Perko from the early 1900s. This piece is in remarkable shape including a lens with no cracks and only a couple minor chips. Additionally it contains all of the original lamp socket hardware. Once it has new wiring installed it will function as new assuming you can find the appropriate light bulbs. Five bulbs are included but have not been tested. The Brass/Bronze casing has some residual paint spots from a few paintings over the years. The Brass up rods also have some discoloration. This all lends itself perfectly to the wonderful patina of this maritime treasure. Due to it's amethyst colour. The Fresnel lens is likely to have been made of manganese dioxide decolorized glass which was produced up until about 1920. The PERKO trademark was registered by Perkins Marine Lamp. Red, and clear(yellowish) The 3 ship lanterns are the same size, but one of them(with the clear glass) is primarily brass, is mounted on a taller wooden base, and is made into a lamp in a different style, making it taller than the other 2 lamps. It stands about 19 inches tall. The base measures about 9 inches ac ross the bottom. I don't know who the maker is. There is a plate with the number 44190 on the front. Great Matching Pair of Old. Marine Ship's Lantern Lamps. These look like Brass.and they also look like Bronze.I can't be sure. I DO know that the Handles are Bronze. I am estimating that these probably date back to Late World War I or Early World War II and may well have been used on military vessels and/or Merchant marine vessels. They are Electric and have Rotating Shutters both on the body and in the bottoms of the lamps. In this way, the light could be closed off both from the sides and the bottoms as need be.kind of an early manual rheostat. These both Measure 8" Tall to the top of the Threaded, Screw-in Lid. The lid, itself measures 3 3/4" Diameter and has a 1 1/2" tall Wire Pass-through apparatus. To the top of the extended handle measures 12" The Base of the lantern measures 5 1/2" Diameter. Each of ... morethese Weigh a hefty 8 3/4 Lbs. Both lids have the Original Removable Light Bulb Sockets. Condition: Number THREE(see pics) is 100% Complete in that it has the little handle sticking off of the side of the rotating shutter for ease of opening and closing the shutter. Number ONE is missing that little handle. That's the only difference. The bottom slide on Number ONE is bent a bit but because it's made of very thin brass. It can EASSILY be pressed back into shape.I'll leave that up to the winning bidder along with re-wiring them. I removed the old cut-off wire stumps that were in the housings and needed to go but I'm not going to re-wire them.that's for you to do. MASTHEAD nautical/ Marine Ships Oil Lamp/ Lantern- 10 1/2" tall from base to top of handle. That's about all I know about this piece! Please review the photographs and ask questions if you have them. I will tell you what I see below. But I don't know anything about these things. It appears to be. From what I see on the Internet, an oil lamp or lantern for a ship. It appears complete to me, again based what I see on the Internet. I see the lantern, a metal reflector inside, a wick in a holder, with a knob that turns to raise the wick. Back of the lantern slides up and down to access the inside. At the back of the lantern. At the top, it says Made in England. On the front of the lantern. On top(the chimney? it has a decorative little plaque that says Masthead. Inside. On the handle that turns, believe it says Sherwood, but it's ... morehard to see. Also inside. On the brass colored piece that holds the wick, it says WEDGE. This was advertised as a"vintage marine oil lantern" The auction I just purchased this at. I do not know if it is old. A repro, original, in part or in whole, or if it is in working order. I can tell you that when I slipped my hand inside. There was some black dirt that resembled SOOT. At some point, I believe this was used. The fabric wick appears clean/unused. Assuming that was replaced. The globe is rounded and feels thin. I do see waves or imperfections. And what may be little bubbles. It almost feels plastic to me, but why would plastic be wavy or contain little bubbles? I just don't know. There is a dent to the right of the masthead label. And another small ding at the rear, left side, about 3 inches from the top of the sliding door. Other than that, aside from needing a very good cleaning and dusting, and a few scratches or minor markings, this looks wonderful to me. Please take a moment to view all photographs. Vintage Antique STERN Nautical Hong Kong Copper Brass Oil Navigation Lantern 9"
This lantern was probably acquired in Singapore where my father-in-law operated a salvage diving business in the 70's.he was US Navy Diver. Who spent a lot of time on boats-and then driving ships, once he retired. The wick is trimmed, slides securely down and there is a reflector that slides in behind it. The wick cap does not click securely to the oil reservoir, though. The thumb wheel turns the wick up and there is one to open the hatch to pull up and refill the reservoir. The top clicks down securely where the ring is positioned. I have some better pictures but am having some trouble uploading from that camera. Email me if you would like to see more.

Up for sale is a beautiful old brass maritime oil lantern that is signed"Wedge. This is a really cool old lantern. And it was very well made. There is glass on all four sides behind the grates. One side is a door that opens via a little latch. This lantern measures about 15" tall by 6 3/4" by 6 3/4" The brass has a beautiful, aged patina and the glass is free of any chips or cracks. The wick is still intact. The lantern is very dusty& dirty, and could use a good cleaning, but structurally it appears to be fine, with no dents or damage. A very nice and highly collectable lantern!

For sale is a very unique item. This is a vintage circa early 1900's divided port and starboard red and green ships lantern. It measures 10 inches tall not counting the handle. With the handle it is 14 1/2 inches tall. Across the back it is 10 3/4 inches wide. Side measurements are 9 3/4 inches wide. The glass measures approx. 4 1/4 x 4 1/4 inches. I do believe it is brass as a magnet does not stick. It is an electric lantern with the original on/off switch. It is in very good original condition. This was found in Key West FL. Vintage Brass Wilcox Crittenden Conn Ship Boat Light Lantern Lamp Red & Green
I do not know how old this lantern is. I think that it is old enough to be considered vintage or possibly antique. The oval plate on the back of it reads. Wilcox, Crittenden& Co. Inc. Middletown, Conn. U.S.A. It appears to be brass. Most of the photos make the metal look redder than it actually is. The photos where the metal looks like it has a very slight greenish tint are closer to representing the actual color. I see where the close-up of the hole where the burner goes makes the edges look like maybe the metal is not brass. In real life. That is not the case. The edges look like brass. A magnet will not stick to any of the lantern and I believe that it is solid brass. I have provided a photo of the bottom being held up to a light to show how it might look when illuminated. Not including the ring at the top. It measures about 9 ½ ... moreinches high. The ring at the top adds about 1 3/4 inches. It weighs about 2 pounds 3.5 ounces. The divider is removable. The condition is much like you see it in the photos. The burner is missing. Otherwise. It is generally in excellent condition. The tarnish is a little uneven and there is a little green oxidation on the back that you can see in a photo. I have provided a close-up of a bend in the edge of the hole for the burner. I do not know if it should be there or not. A close-up shows a small shallow depression just below the seam on the chimney. I do not know if it was made that way or not. Otherwise, are no dents in the metal or breaks or cracks in the glass. The inside and a little of the outside of the glass could use some cleaning. It looks like there is some soot on the inside of the top part. There is a little of some kind of dark hard gunk on the bottom that you can see in the photo of the bottom. I would suggest a low wattage bulb(bulb not included) The cord is the old cloth style cord with damage at the end by lantern; although there are now wires damaged(see picture) The plug is the old style plastic type.
