It measures 14" tall and 7" Diameter amd weighs about 5 lbs. Not sure if it is an original or reproduction. If it is a repro. It is a good one because it is highly detailed with cross bars and green glass(it has an outer pane of clear glass and an inner pane of green, it is not thick green glass) It also has a functioning oil lantern that can be taken out fron the bottom. Antique 1869 Scottish Clipper Ship Brass Nautical Lantern Kerosene/Oil Lamp-1255-Dumbarton Scotland I just purchased this nice antique piece at a local estate auction. It is is very good condition considering its age! It has a very nice patina to it and all of the glass is still intact. It also has all of the reflector plates on the inside lid. This is important because there are reproductions out there and they do not have the reflector plates. Reproductions also don't have the lead flaps at the tops of the glass panels to hold the glass in. The other thing to look for is the data plate. Reproductions are usually thin and cheesy looking. This lamp has the nice thick data plate. I did my research before buying this at the auction and am 100% confident that this is an original. In fact there is still some soot in the corners of the reflector ... moreplates to indicate that it was used. Measurements are 24" tall and 14" across. RARE! Offered here at NO RESERVE is a genuine 1800's sailing ship's distress lantern. This old globe lantern is made of tinned metal and is in its original yellow ocre. Mustard paint typical of that time period. The lovely ruby red lens is hand-blown as evidenced by the bubbles in the glass. I have been told that real gold was used in the production of these early red lenses, and that many were salvaged for their gold content. As a result, scarce few survive. This early example is of German manufacture, the wick advance knob on the oil burner is marked"Kosmos Brenner. It is functional and the original old circular wick is still ... morepresent! The all brass font fits into the bottom of the lamp with a bayonet twist and has a brass loop for securing the lamp in a seaway. The top is also equipped with a large pivoting handle and a castellated chimney top for dispersing the heat. The top also hinges back for ease of inspecting the burner inside. This old veteran of the sea measures 14 1/2 inches tall and is 10 inches wide. It is in excellent original condition showing good signs of actual use but no abuse. If you buy this you will be lucky. Description: This is a large antique"birdcage" type oil lantern that was made between 1860 and 1890. It has a period Fresnel lens globe that is in good condition with a bit of chipping around the rim. But no cracks or structural damage. These brass lamps were re-produced by Perkins Marine Lamp Corporation but this one is an original 1800s light as shown by the beautifully decorated hanging ring at the top, careful handmade construction, etc. This one is also extra special in that it has the post fittings for use in a light house- it is missing the brass plate which would have marked it as such, but you can see where it used to be attached. These antique nautical lamps were used extensively for anchor lights, and after its life in a lighthouse it may have been used at the top of the mast during heavy fog or in the night to keep other ... moreships from running into the boat. It is missing the burner and bottom plate- it may have been wired for electric after the use of whale oil lamps declined, but please note that only what is in the pictures is included. Peter Gray & Sons Ship Lantern with Red Fresnel Lens
This lantern is badged on the inside of the door"PETER GRAY& SONS. MANUFACTURERS, BOSTON MASS. The company used this name from about 1885- 1920, so presumably it was made during this time period. It stands about 13" high by 7" wide and 7" deep, not including the bracket on the back. The body of the lantern is steel, as is the burner except for its bottom which appears to be copper. It is complete, including the burner(the wick is even still there! and the mounting bracket on the back which clearly had fit into a mounting plate. Overall, it is in good condition, but here are the issues that I have found: The lens is chipped in four places. The worst of which is the dime-sized chip on the right side(shown in picture) There is also a chip from the edge of the lens on the top right and two in the lower left. The door does ... morenot close properly. I didn't wan't to mess with it and possibly cause further damage. I'll let the buyer make that decision! On the back. There is a crease about 4" long running beside the bracket- Slight surface rust here and there This belonged to my father and he told me that it is a ship's port lantern. While I cannot swear that this is accurate and that it is not a railroad lantern. My research seems to confirm that it looks most like a ship's lantern. I used an LED flashlight to take the picture with the light from the inside, but it does not really do the color justice. The lens is a beautiful ruby red.

The lantern has both port& starboard lenses, with a dividing plate between the ribbed red& deep aqua green glass. The lantern has old silver paint with typical surface age. The interior lamp is brass& shows surface greening. The wick advances. One of the two side mounting brackets on the interior lamp is missing. The lantern displays very nicely& the glass on the lantern is free of any chips or cracks. No dents. It measures 11" high to the top of the holding ring by 4.5" wide and 7" deep. This is a really unique Antique Neptune Kerosene oil lamp. Is little different from the ones I have searched& It seems to be in very good condition for it's age. The ship lantern stands at a tall 15" without the handle and is 8" wide. The oil glass pot comes out from the top by unhinging the front side then the lantern and flipping the top backwards. With a hook and a latch with a chain for closer. The glass brass oil lantern stands at 4" tall without glass lamp. Seems to be heavy about 6 to 7 pounds. Made out of brass with copper rivets. Has a handle. Also four glass panels. It has a new wick. Not sure if the wick is original it does appear unused. Antique Vintage Brass Ship or Railroad Lantern Dresser Railway Lamp & Signal Co
This stunning old lantern belonged to my parents. And has been in my family for as long as I can remember. I do not know the exact age or the original function. The high level of craftsmanship in this lantern is amazing. It appears to be of solid brass with a wooden handle attached at the top. The only place that a magnet will stick to the metal is on the fitting that holds the wick. There are two rectangular glass windows. The hinged door is opened by pulling up on a slide loop. There are two round silver metal reflectors on the inside walls of the lantern. The footed base has a bolt and nut for attaching the lantern to a surface. The Round knob that adjusts the wick is marked Dressel and the number 0. I believe that this stands for the Dressel Lamp Works of Arlington New Jersey. The dual wick oil burners puts out a substantial amount of illumination making this an excellent blue-water ocean-going navigation light. This lamp is functional. However oil reservoir is missing the cap. Lamp is also missing the interior reflector. Existing wicks will be shipped with light. It was either made to house a light bulb. Or converted an extremely long time ago. The bulb holder is European ceramic, so it would need an American spec bulb holder if you choose to use it as a lamp. The lantern measures about 13-inches high. I apologize for the shipping costs.
