Very unusual and practical configuration. Solidly constructed of heavy brass and thick Fresnel glass. Highly domed top opens for cleaning. Knurled thumbscrews allow access to the main body. Interesting articulated swivel ring on the downhaul bail prevents lamp stressing while the vessel is rolling. Very thick'lighthouse' type Fresnel lens is marked with a triangle and the letters'GGG' Definitely worth some research. The heavy Fresnel lens provides significant magnification of the flame. Made of brass and iron. A gimbal allows something that contains liquid to self level in a situation such as a ship where the floor would not remain horizontal, something you would appreciate especially with a lamp holding flammable fuel. There is an old wick coming out of the burner side, and a thumbscrew that will open the filling space. The gimbal is made of iron, a gracefully curved heavy bar that would have been placed into a hole in a post drilled to hold a lamp such as this. The lamp itself is made of brass, made to withstand heavy duty use. When you remove the thumbscrew, the plate on the top will lift off with the wick. We could not find another example like this one so we are calling it rare. What a great chance to obtain something that would have been vitally useful in its time, but is a relic now that predates the electric light bulb. These are from my 1976 English offshore racing sailboat. I've never used them. So cannot verify their working. I'd imagine they are fairly bulletproof simple things that should work, perhaps needing a bit of maintenance. They could use a good polishing. It is possible the the body brass is pitted beyond shine. The upper cap rod is missing its end cap thread, entirely aesthetic. All in all they seem a quality build.

It comes with a tall thin glass smoke chimney. It measures 15" high to the top of the chimney, the base is 3 5/16" wide. It has very obvious quality- best you could possibly find. Perhaps made by Weems& Plath or Scandinavian maker. Fine clean solid condition with no damage- check my photos. FABULOUS. Isn't it? Vintage. Brass(with glass inserts) hanging lantern. Inside oil lamp comes out to refill etc. Top unlatches as well too(as pictured) There is an imperfection(which looks like a chip. But you cannot"feel" it by touch) on the actually tiny hurricane glass piece surrounding the lamp piece itself. Residue left on the top"latch" of the piece from previous burning. Antique "Viking" Ship Nautical Maritime Oil Lamp Kerosene Lantern
Vintage Viking Kerosene anchor light. Not sure of the age but not antique. I see other Viking brand lanterns listed as true antiques but I don't believe they are or that this one is. Everything works. It stands 15" tall. 6 1/2" deep and 6 1/2" wide. The glass is all in good condition. No dents, breaks or flaws that I can see. The material seems to be all brass except the rolled edges and corners are brass rolled over a steel rod. This lantern is dirty and needs cleaning but i will leave that up to the purchaser, I am selling as found. This will make a beautiful display or actually use it!
