The lamp stays level at any angle. It also has wear to the finish with corrosion on several spots. So study the pictures carefully. I cannot find any others to compare it to on ebay and there are no markings on the light other than on the socket inside the lamp and on the side as shown are the letters P&O. I am not sure if this was a gas type light or not. Although it has a socket where a bulb or something would have fit but on the side of the light it looks like a flint or sparker. The light will need the chrome trim cleaned.Sorry I am not much help here, please see the pictures and maybe someone out there can tell me more. The works are mounted on a nice piece of oak and there are exposed wires etc on the back. It appears the glass is missing however the clip holder to hold the glass guard in is in the metal hood. The metal hood is hinged and has holes to let the heat escape. The light measures 11" long x 5" wide and weighs unpackaged 3-1/2 pounds.At the top of the light is a knob that can be turned to control the brightness i am guessing. The diameter of the light is 10" Inside the base there are gears and what appears to be a motor. This light probably rotated electrically. I do not know if it still works. In picture#2 there is a very small dent on the side. This searchlight is being sold as is. Insurance included in shipping. New Jersey residents 7% sales tax.

Glass is in good condition with about 3 tiny. Tiny chips on the ribs of the glass that are hardly noticeable. Also has a few tiny paint specks, age& dirt. No cracks though. The lantern has been painted red sometime in its life that’s faded, chipping. It comes with a chain& Original brass Miller Co. burner& hurricane ... moreglass that’s attached to bottom cover. The hurricane is in good condition with some tiny chipping along the bottom rim that goes into the burner. Also is soiled. You can access the bulb area by unscrewing the cage and then unscrewing the glass globe. The glass is undamaged. But could use some additional cleaning. This type of lantern was used to warn other vessels that they were anchored(not underway) at night. Based on the design. Materials used, and quality it was likely built by the Perkins Marine Lamp& Hardware Co. but the"PERKO" tag is not attached. Overall, it measures 10½” tall x 4½” wide, weighs 2 lbs, and is equipped with six brass guards to protect the 3½" x 4” 360 º clear dioptric(ribbed) clear lens. The lantern originally had a oil burning font which has been replaced with 110 volt lighting. It doesn't appear to have had a lot of sea duty and is in exceptional condition.This nautical artifact is a nice example of U.S. Maritime history.
