RARE Vintage Lantern Light Buoy Piling Ship Anchor Dock Nautical Galv. Brass
Up for auction today is vintage nautical lantern. Different people call these types by such names as; buoy. Piling, master head, anchor, or dock lantern/ light. I am not sure of the proper name or use for this lantern. Can you inform me? It measures 17 ½” tall. The bottom is 8” in diameter, the top is 7 ½” in diameter, the lens is 4 ¾” tall(the exposed portion) and the lens is approx 5” in diameter. The lens is a dark ruby red and I see no cracks or chips. The body is galvanized metal with the rings. Latching hardware and the top ring of bottom portion being made of brass. There is a makers mark on the inside but some is missing and I cannot tell by what I can read who the maker is. Do you know? I assume that it was battery operated but there is no battery or wiring that is visible. I did not take the top portion apart and ... moredo not know if there is a bulb inside. The one photo that shows the lens bright was held up to the sun. The lantern is in good overall condition with some oxidation and rust as shown. Wood block measures approx. 14 1/2" in length. 7 1/2" at the wooden pulley/block end, 9" at brass lantern end, and 2 3/4" thick. Brass Lanterns measure approx. 9" in height and 6 1/4" wide. Old antique Ships brass light cover w/ hook and beveled glass front, 1800s ?
Hello. Up for bid is what I believe to be an antique ships brass light cover. I was told it could be a very old cover for a ships nautical instrument. The patina on it is very old as is the old beveled glass front. Truthfully I ve never seen another one so have nothing to compare to. Its definately old and in good shape but what exactly it was used for, I am not sure. The inside paint is a light colored paint and is flaking off. The glass is very nice with normal age wear and scuffs. I cleaned the glass a little but did no other restoration on this item. It looks to good to mess with. The brass handle is tight and swings freely. The body of the lamp cover shows normal wear and dings, nothing bad. The large hook on the back looks good and is very solid. U.S. Navy World War II Masthead Brass Nautical Ship Light Must See!!
U. S. NAVY WW II MASTHEAD LIGHT This great light is waterproof and sported 6 x 15 volts for very bright lights. Why 6 you ask? Because the light was positioned on top of the mast. Making it hard to reach to replace a bulb during battle conditions, and if some burned out the others carried on! I have no idea how the bulbs were powered or how the wiring worked. You can take out the bulb sockets in the light and it has a pretty deep cavity to either place a battery or add your own lighting. I did not make any holes or try to adapt it for a more modern light. The wick rolls up and down freely and appears to be about new. There is no oil or kerosene. This was part of my grandparent's estate. The glass panels are intact. On this project we started out with a common original brass passageway light. The light was soda blasted to remove the original paint. And then it was polished. Next, we fitted the light with a 10 inch polished brass deflector cover and we made a screw in brass plug to hide the original conduit hole on the side. We then added a 1/2 in threaded hole on the top of the brass housing, and added 24 inches of polished copper pipe and fittings. The ceiling mount is galvanized steel painted to match the brass light. To finish off the project ... morewe added all new UL-Listed wiring and bulb holder. The bulb holder takes a normal screw in house bulb of 60 watts or less. All electrical parts used will work on any voltage under 250 volts. We gave you 36 inches of extra wire to make your power connection. From the bottom of the globe cage to the ceiling mount. This light is 32 inches. The ceiling mount is 3 inches wide and has four mount holes. You can make this light longer by adding more copper pipe, or it can be as short as 9 inches if you reduce the pipe we have installed. The cast brass cage spins on and off freely and holds the deflector cover and glass globe in place. The glass globe is undamaged. I have been converting original brass nautical lights into custom projects for over 10 years. Our workmanship is our pride. Keep us in mind when it comes to your custom lighting projects. Vtg. Stern Light **Brass & Glass**
This is a nice old stern light made out of brass and glass. It stands about 5 1/2 inches tall. Glass globe is threaded to screw into base. The glass top is thick and heavy. No guts with this light. Just the base and top. No cracks or chips.
