Maritime Navigational Lanterns.The main housing is constructed of galvanized iron and ... morethe top cover is copper. However they have not been shined up. The original manufacturer was Wilcox& Crittenden& Co. There trademark was Capital W with a Capital C embossed on top of one another. The factory was in Middletown, CONN. USA. There is a photo of the Logo which appears to be embossed on brass, it is on the side, located on top of a metal sleeve, which is riveted on the lantern itself. This sleeve must have been used to slip over something to hold it secure to the ship. Both sleeves are intact and extremely secure. This embossing is very difficult to capture in a photo as the glare, and clarity of a photo so close. The lanterns stand just shy of 13" tall with the hanging loop standing up. They are made to fit in a corner. The sides measure 5" With the front curving around to meet the 2 sides. The glass itself is 5" tall and is almost 90 degrees. One lantern has fresnel green glass for the starboard, and the lantern with the fresnel red glass is for the port. The glass on both lanterns is in very good shape and have no cracks or chips. The metal round accesses to the oil chambers/wicks are both present and appear tight when screwed in. The wick chambers need cleaning, but seem to work, and even have wick left in them! We didn't attempt to light them, but knowing something about oil lanterns, don't see any reason they wouldn't work, however this isn't a guarantee. just presenting things honestly. The metal. Nowhere, on either lantern shows any sign of rust. However they are a brown color. Paint appears to be old, in some places chipping, or peeling off. There are the usual signs of true usage. Wear and tear. Overall appear to be in very good shape. I have not checked them for leakage, however on inspection, I don't see any reason they would leak. I have no idea how old they are. Old antique Ships brass light cover w/ hook and beveled glass front, 1800s ?
Hello. Up for bid is what I believe to be an antique ships brass light cover. I was told it could be a very old cover for a ships nautical instrument. The patina on it is very old as is the old beveled glass front. Truthfully I ve never seen another one so have nothing to compare to. Its definately old and in good shape but what exactly it was used for, I am not sure. The inside paint is a light colored paint and is flaking off. The glass is very nice with normal age wear and scuffs. I cleaned the glass a little but did no other restoration on this item. It looks to good to mess with. The brass handle is tight and swings freely. The body of the lamp cover shows normal wear and dings, nothing bad. The large hook on the back looks good and is very solid. Looks like it hooks to the ship with the hook. There is no bottom and I dont know if it ... morehad one. The size is demonsrtated in picture two with my hand as a size measurement. Rare Ship's Cone-top Bird Cage Whale Oil Lantern. Tufts 1860 Brass Ships Lantern
Extremely Rare American Pat. dated March 13. 1860 Brass Ships Lantern! Same Patent date as Tufts Lanterns made in Boston and probably a Rare Tufts Lantern as shown. The date is on the bottom of the heavy glass Globe which is original to the Lamp. All Brass and in the early Bird Cage form. Complete with original Brass Whale Oil Burner, see photo#5. The Punched Tin Cone-top is fantastic, see photo#2. I see no damage or repairs and it measures 17 1/2" tall and 21" if you include the Ring Handle. 9" in diameter across the bottom. Quite heavy about 10 lbs. due mainly to the heavy glass Globe. A very rare piece of nautical History with 150 years of patina, never polished! We were told these came off of a 1940's sail ship. Perko Navigational lights in solid brass cases. These sadly have been painted and will need full restoration including wiring. The red globe has some chipping only visible from inside or the very bottom left corner from the outside. The green globe has no chipping. Both globes and cases have scratching and scuffing throughout from years of use and poor storage. Some paint smeers on the globes as shown. NO cracks. just chips. Huge vintage Pauluhn Nautical Pier lights. stamped- cat no. 1453 Great Nautical heavy duty design. Believed to be solid brass- Will not stick to a magnet. These are mounted to bases manufactured by- Kenilworth N.J. and read Suitable for wet locations. We have not attempted to clean or polish these at all. One of the red or off red glass globes has 6 chips on its fins which are hard to notice because of the large size. The other red globe which is a slightly different tone then the other has only one chip on a fin. Both globes have some minor flea biting on the fins and scratching/ wear throughout from age and outdoor use. The brass or metal has scratching scuffing etc. and one of them has a little chunk missing shown in photograph# 3. These will need a detailed cleaning and restoration of all wiring before they can be used. You are bidding on the single copper and brass cargo light shown in the first 8 photos. This light measures 28 inches tall and weighs about 48 pounds. The wide end with the glass measures 17 1/2 inches wide with the glass being right at 15 inches wide. The top mounting pipe we have installed is 12 inches long. The connecting pipe and ceiling mount we have added to this light were custom made for us. And are made of cast brass. The ceiling mount is 3 1/2 inches wide with four mount holes. This light has been re-wired with all new UL-Listed parts made by Westinghouse ... moreElectric. Our newly installed lighting hardware is rated for any voltage under 250 volts, so normal house power is not an issue. The new bulb holder takes a normal screw in house bulb with a wattage of less than 150 watts. Since the inside housing has very little space restrictions, you can even use the newer compact fluorescent bulbs, or a spot light with a common screw in base. Our wiring exits the center hole of the ceiling mount and we provide about 30 inches of extra wiring. When we find these lights. They are painted. We have removed the paint and polished the copper and brass. We do not try to polish our lights to the point they look new, but this light polished up and has a great look to it. U. S. NAVY WW II MASTHEAD LIGHT This great light is waterproof and sported 6 x 15 volts for very bright lights. Why 6 you ask? Because the light was positioned on top of the mast. Making it hard to reach to replace a bulb during battle conditions, and if some burned out the others carried on! I have no idea how the bulbs were powered or how the wiring worked. You can take out the bulb sockets in the light and it has a pretty deep cavity to either place a battery or add your own lighting. I did not make any holes or try to adapt it for a more modern light. California which is, in tonage, the 4th busiest port on the West Coast. In the early days of California Stockton was the hub. Many regarded Stockton as the in-land San Francisco. It was a rough place and full of vice. Many different forms of boats and ships from sailing vessels to large paddlewheelers made their way to Stockton bringing people and goods. During WWII there were no less than two shipyards making destroyers, balloon barges and tugs for the U.S. Navy. Stockton was also home to the Stephen's Bros. Boat Builders from 1902 to 1987. Rare Nautical Brass Lantern with Antler handle
I have a rare antique nautical lantern I'm told its from Chinese origin from whom I received it from. It is made of brass and can swivel( that keeps it level) from its antler handle. I don't see any markings on it but its obvious its an early lantern as the story goes the Chinese used it as a light on there fishing boats. The design allows one to carry/hold it or set it down as the antler having one spike on it and the flat of the lantern keeps it level. The brass shows some dents and wear marks but the antler is mint both showing wonderful patina. In great vintage condition! Measuring 11" long X lantern is 3 1/2" wide X 4" tall! Large Danish brass kerosene naval ship lantern. Labelled"Fregatten Jylland" No 6051. H. 63 cm(25" D. 30 cm(12" The lantern weighs 7 pounds. This lamp is a reproduction of a lantern found on the ship. With a funnel for oil. It has a shade of bubbled glass protected by brass rods. And has a clear inner chimney. The wick is adjustable. The shade can be raised and lowered to service the burner. There are five brass rods which can be linked to form a chain for hanging the lantern. Jylland" is the longest wooden ship in the world today. It has traditional sailing ship rigging as well as a steam engine. And is a perfect representative for the transition from sail to steam power. It took part in the battle of Helgoland in 1864 in the naval action against the Austrian-Prussian fleet. Which was the first naval battle in history ... morewhere two fleets engaged each other without the use of sails, but only used their steam engines during the entire battle. In Danish. Rare Solid Brass Ship's Binnacle Lantern Lamp c 1800's

Made in England for the colony of Newfoundland and used I believe on the coastal boats that delivered goods and services around the coast of Newfoundland before the present roads were built. As you can see from the pictures this was a working light used to light the compass on the sailing boats. The brass is very worn. The handle which is brass with an insert are skewed and have been like this since I acquired them and I would guess its from heavy usage in all kinds of weather The lantern is all original with original doors and clasps and glass. It also has the original oil burner with ceramic ... morewick holder. The wick turner is very stiff and probably needs oil. The burner is signed and trademarked Barton's(England) 9 3/4” from base to top of handle the base is not square but rather a circle with a flat front measuring approx 2 7/8 from front to back and 3 2/8 from side to side. We are located in Canada midway between Ottawa and Kingston in Ontario just one hour from the New York border Round trip to Ogdensburg New York is 120 miles round trip by car. Please be patient. If your item closes when we have just completed out trip. Because of the border costs and gas we can only make this trip once a week. Beautiful Brass Antique Ships Candle Holder. Brass with lead solder.Great condition. It has a small ring underneath that can be used as a way to keep it from sliding around a table in rough seas,by hooking it to a clasp or nail.This was polished with Brasso recently. Nice patina, complete, and no damage to glass. These are very heavy lamps.
