Vintage Brass Kerosene Gimbal Ships Lamp Here is a great older brass lantern I found during my recent travels in northern Michigan. This beautiful lamp has a gimbal mount and a weighted base. It is self-leveling during movement over water. It appears that it has been polished but it still has a nice warm patina. The glass chimney is very nice with just a small"blob" on the upper rim. There is no wick but the adjuster works smoothly. The base is heavily weighted for stability when sitting on a table. The lamp mounts are screwed to the mahogany using brass and copper fasteners and the hanging wire is 1/8" stainless aircraft cable with nicopressed eyes on the ends and screwed to the mahogany using brass eye screws. The lamp in no way has been changed to accomodate it's mount. The mahogany is 6 1/2" wide and 10" tall. The lamp is 7 1/2" tall and 4 1/2" wide including mounting rings. Antique ships lantern lamp copper brass large look
This is a Large(approx. 17 1/2ins tall and approx 12ins wide) heavy( approx. 15lbs) vintage ships lantern. Which has a thick glass Fresno. It is metal which looks like brass and copper( see pics) and has a wooden base. It is electrified and has a place for a small bulb inside. I tested it with a working bulb but it did not light I imagine that it is either the switch or the wiring so it will need fixing The lamp came from an Estate sale and whilst I was not able to get a history on it I was told by the agents that it had been in the family for a long time. As you can see it has not been polished and is a little dusty( as were all the items at the sale! The glass is very thick and appears to be old with imperfections and bubbles. I found one minute flea bit chip in one of the ridges, I tried to show it on the photos but it can more be felt ... morethat seen. It is being sold as- found. Cord is about 3 ft long. 5 holes on top for hanger which is now plastic zip ties that could be replaced with something nicer.
