I PURCHASED THIS MANY YEARS AGO AND IT HAD ABOUT 10 COATS OF BLACK PAINT ON IT. I TOOK IT TO A PROFESSIONAL AND HAD IT CLEANED AND IT WAS A BEAUTIFUL BRASS. THAT WAS A LONG TIME AGO SO IT HAS DULLED OVER THE YEARS BUT WOULD CLEAN BEAUTIFUL AGAIN. IT IS IN REALLY NICE CONDITION. NO GLASS CRACKS OR CHIPS. SOMEONE DID DRILL A HOLE IN THE BOTTOM, I SUPPOSE TO TRY AND MAKE A LAMP. THERE ARE NO SCRATCHES OR DENTS AND HAS NOT BEEN WELDED OR ANY OTHER REPAIR MADE TO IT. This unique little light was made sometime between the late 1920s up untill the early 1940s when the company moved out of San Francisco.Unsure of exact application and have been told it could be for everything from a Trolley Car to a Military Airplane since the company did get involved in WW2.Being brass my first thought is possibly a Maritime item off a ship.It is a very well built piece and you can see it is missing the three tiny screws that would that would secure the top to the base.The glass lens has no maker marks and has a chip on the inside lip that is only noticeable when totally removed.A possible rare find to who knows what.Pictures are accurate on condition.Thanks.

Rare Antique 1920's Perko Brass Ship's Fog Bell Marine Lamp Original Patina
Rare 1920's original 8" fog bell lamp marked on inside of bell. PERKO, Perkins M.S. Co. Bklyn, N.Y. 07-61" Since I couldn't find a similar Perko fog-bell-lamp form anywhere, I contacted the Perko Marine Lamp Corp in Miami Florida with photos of the lamp. They said that this was originally manufactured by Perkins in this lamp-form and that it is not a custom piece made outside the factory by an individual. In their library they found only a 1920 and a 1932 catalog. In the 1920 catalog, they found a lamp that had similar fittings. I believe the markings inside the bell date this lamp to sometime between 1922 when the"PERKO" trademark was created and 1932 when the company name was changed to Perko Marine Lamp and Hardware Corp. It has a well-aged patina. Height from bottom of base to top of eagle finial is 20" ... moreDiameter of bell is 8" Bell has a wonderful resonant. Distinctive fog bell sound. Lamp is in good working order. Not sure if the wiring has been changed at all- the electrical plug is the old-style with prongs of even width. Some black electrical tape on bottom as you can see in photo. Shade is a replacement. Condition generally very good with no cracks or dings- pls see closeup photos. Wonderful old signal lantern. Marked Seahorse GB 43366. As found with a nice patina. Stands ~ 14 1/4" tall not counting the bail. Dent in top which could be pushed out from inside. Here we have a very large ship or boat lamp or lantern marked"Anchor" This estate found lantern is made from solid brass which has been lacquered. Although the lacquer is crazing from age. It still displays very nicely. The center cap in the top flips up and it also opens at the base of the top as well. There is an oil lamp inside that does have the wick. In the center there is a very thick ribbed glass lens that has no cracks. There is a brass anchor hook on the top and the bottom. No dents, nice vintage condition. Very large, the lamp itself measures an impressive 18 1/2" tall not including the anchor hooks at the top and bottom. Diameter is about 9 3/4" This sizable lamp displays nicely. Here is an absolutely stunning and very rare example of an early. Solid brass, candle powered ship's navigation lantern. Though one in this price range isn't for everyone, it is for the serious collector. Circa late 1800's to very early 1900's. This style of lantern was also often used as a Lighthouse Keepers Stairwell or Passageway Light. As it was made by the famous lighthouse Fresnel Makers- Barbier Benard& Turenne of Paris, it seems only fitting. The lantern has a plate on the front of it's lighthouse style body, that names this maker. It is made of highly polished solid brass. And is 7.5" wide, 16.5" w/o bales extended and 26" with bales extended. It is a fairly large lantern. It is fitted with the original lens, which in made of red glass shaped to look like a lighthouse and made of high quality ... moreglass. The globe is in excellent condition showing no chips or cracks. As for the inner workings of the lantern. As the candle burns a brass spring slowly pushes it up in order to keep the flame at a constant level. A candle is included. Here is a great and unique piece for your buying consideration. Recently acquired it at an auction where it was commingled with a lot of marine/nautical items from an individual's collection. Would make a great gift or keep it for yourself! I have never seen one of these before. The body is made of brass. The tall neck can be screwed off of the body by the fixed bolt head on the end of it. At the end of the neck is a pinhole where the fluid vapors could be let to allow the flame for lighting the lanterns. What looks like a key is where the flammable fluid would have been put in the body. Think that is true with the"pan" around the key to facilitate the pouring. There is a brass side ... morepiece with screws in it that does not go to the inside of the pot. So. Another way to hold it. or locking into a device that it was inserted into. The brass and wood handle has some good age to it. I suspect the brass at end of handle was resoldered back on to the pot at some time in the past. There are two patent dates on the piece. On the filler cap key is a date of April 19 1892. On the pot itself is a date of April 4. 1893. Appears the piece could be used as a lantern or torch. Here is a great nautical set of large ship brass and copper lanterns for your buying consideration. Recently acquired them at an auction that a party's collection of marine/nautical items were being sold. We will have a number of these pieces for sale separately in our Ebay store. The lanterns would make a great gift or keep them for yourself. I would guess these lanterns are of World War II vintage. No maker marks or year made marks on the lanterns that I can ascertain. Great set of port(red) and starboard(green) brass ship lanterns for your decor needs. The lanterns were electrified at some point in the past. The lenses in each one are glass and not cracked or blistered. Each glass piece ... morewas caulked into each of the lanterns at some point in the past. The lantern cases are in good shape. Show some finish loss. The red lantern has the lip along the top of the lantern bent in and that bottom corner has a ding. The glass lens was not damaged there in either place. Each lantern is 14.25" tall. By 11.5" across, by 10.75" wide. I do not see a maker's mark on the lanterns. The brass tops screw off to access the inside of each lantern. Someone has put aluminum foil inside to get better reflection of the light thru to the lens. These were electric lanterns originally, but the light unit inside is certainly not the original one. The back piece that the lanterns would slide on to a bar are still in place. The cords are the lanterns are older, but still look to be in usable condition. I would recommend you have the cords and wiring checked out by a professional before using them from a safety perspective. It is made out of brass and has one side with green ribbed glass and the other side with red ribbed glass. There is also a divider made of brass that separates the two colors from view of passing ships on the high seas(sometimes seen missing or damaged on other lights) The brass has a nice patina from many decades of life. There is a decent size dent on the slightly-domed top(please see photos) The side of the light is marked with Perko's logo and company info. Being made in Brooklyn,NY. My guess as to age would be from around the 1930s or 40s. It could be even earlier-back into the 20s or so- but I'm not certain. The glass is in good condition. You are bidding on the 1930's Steamer Ship Passageway Nautical Light shown in the above photos. This is an authentic well crafted vintage cast brass nautical light. Unlike some of the modern reproduction lights you see on the market. This ceiling mounted passageway light is made of just over 7 pounds of cast brass material. We have taken this original light and added the 8 inch brass deflector cover and covered the original conduit holes on the side with threaded brass plugs. Freshly polished and rewired, this light is ready to hang as soon as you unpack it from our shipping ... morebox. The new wiring will work with any voltage under 250 volts. When mounted to the ceiling, this light will extend down by about 7 inches. To access the bulb, you spin off the brass cage and the glass globe spins off. The top side of the light has three mounting legs. You will need a mounting space that is about 5 1/2 inches square. The deflector cover is mounted to the cage with three screws, so if for some reason you do not want the deflector cover it is removable. The new bulb holder takes a normal screw in house bulb base, but because this is a low profile light, you will need a short style bulb or 75 watts or less.
