My father purchased this ship lantern in 1964 at moss point Mississippi.It came from one of the ships in the National Defense Reserve(Ghost Fleet) that was anchored in Blakeley River. AL. Vintage Japanese Brass/Copper Ship Lantern 1949
This is a very large(22" high x 9" Diameter) what I believe is a Japanese Ship Lantern. It has a plate riveted to it that has the Japanese description on it. I can't understand any of it except the date 1949. It is made of copper& brass. The oil reservoir is connected by 2 hinged bolts and drops out the bottom for easy filling. Handles on the top& bottom can swing out as desired. With the bottom handle. It looks like these lanterns can be stacked. It does have a couple small dents(I think easily fixed) but it is a very solid unit. Would be very sweet lantern when restored. No glass. Rare Vintage Perko Brass Ship Boat Large Tank Lantern
Super nice original Perko lantern that shows little use. The wick shows that it was used some. And the glass shield around the wick is cracked. Other than that this is an outstanding example of this lantern with the extra large tank. There are a couple of tiny dings but nothing noticeable. This has not been polished, and is in original untouched condition. There is a small Perko tag on one side but the engraving is light and will not show up for the camera. The lantern is 14" high not counting the top ring, and 7" diameter at the base of the tank. This is a lantern from my personal collection that I am selling off. I was able to read Sylvania and 230V. I wiped the end to read it more clearly and all of the letters went away. It is a dual pole bulb. The bulb receptacle screws out and there are screws that can be removed or loosened to place wires into it then tightened back to make a very good positive connection. This listing is for a large solid brass ship's lantern marked"PERKINS MARINE LAMP& HDWE CORP. It measures approximately 14-3/4" tall(excluding handle) and has a base diameter of 7-1/8" The lantern has been painted black over the brass which shows through in several places(see photos) The lantern is an estate find and we do not know if the paint is original. The high quality of the paint job prompts us to wonder. The glass globe has no cracks in it and the original tank plug is present. The glass is marked Perko 31-L-17A. The oil burner is missing. The lantern takes an oil burner with a 1-3/16 ID thread. There are some minor dings and dents in the lantern as well as a small split in the cap where it joins with the glass globe(see photos) There are no repairs and the split does not affect the integrity of the cap. Offered here is a Nautical Ship Lantern Marked: ANCHOR on brass tag. This entire lantern is solid brass with some of the frame tarnished& copper in color"looking" I am unsure of the type of brass? Has a red color tarnish to it and this lantern could be polished out really nicely to a consistent gold color if desired. No manufacture dates; patent dates; or any other markings found other than the word Anchor. This lantern has never been lit. And is NOS. I took a large powerful magnet to all parts, and the only time the magnet stuck was on the widest part of the burner frame; the other parts of the burner are"brass" and non-magnetic. A couple of very small dents in the frame is all the flaws worth mentioning. Everything turns; rotates; operates as it was as new! This lantern stands 13-7/8" tall exactly and is 7-5/8" ... moreat it's widest diameter with the bottom of the frame measuring 6-5/8" exactly. The distance between gimballed bail handle eye loops is 19-1/2" while hanging. The upper gimballed handle allows the user to open the entire top ventilator to remove the fuel pot while hanging& remaining attached. This lantern weighs 6.22 lbs on scale"without fuel& having the inside glass chimney" It is missing the inside glass chimney that would measure 1-1/4" across outside bottom diameter& would stand 4-1/2" tall approximately. The clear Fresnel globe is in perfect shape having air bubbles& cast lines and swirls; has smooth surface inside& refractory surface outside& measures: 5-5/16" in diameter across outside top& bottom& 4-3/4" tall overall. It is non removable& this lantern appears to be a fixed globe type. This item fairly clean other than dust on the inside& ready to use or display in a nautical collection! Up for sale is a very old Nautical Maritime Navigation Brass PORT Lantern/Light. Let me start by saying I do not know what I have here; it is old. Weathered and has some rust and oxidizing on the lantern. The top hanging part is loose as screws not secure in the back of it. I believe it is copper and or brass. I do not see any name on the lantern. There are no dents on the lantern. Front screw opening. The front has the word PORT. The light is heavy red glass. Not plastic. There is no interior piece that lights the lantern. The glass has come loose and the metal frame has separated in the corner but all of this can be fixed. Could use a cleaning/polishing. For its age. It is in very good condition. Approx. measurements: 13” tall(ring for hanging is 3” which is not included in the height measurement of 13” Each side width is 6” small top that ... moreopens is 3” tall Front: 11 1/2” around the front just below the top that opens. Lantern is not dented or structurally damaged. Lantern looks like it was cared for very well for many years. But has been neglected in recent years. There are some"heat marks" on the base, and it looks"spotty" in places. These might be removed by polishing, and lantern is currently in need of polishing. Fuel holder part has been soldered near top(this may be a manufacturer's doing, and not a repair, since all seem to have it) and glass chimney is cracked near top. See photos for condition.
