Erie Canal Boat Headlight Lantern ? Railroad?
This is a very old oil lamp/ headlight lantern. It was discovered in an old barn on the banks of the original Erie Canal(construction started near this location in 1817. Several railroad lanterns of later vintage where also found. It has a rusty patina. The box has sliding glass panels on three sides that surround the oil lamp and parabolic reflector. One of these panels is broken. The lamp has cracks in the glass chimney. The chimney has"Crescent" and a logo etched in the glass. No other markings are on the lamp. The side wings are mirrors and are adjustable. The parabolic reflector is in excellent condition with no major flaws to the surface. It is removable. The lamp is 10 inch x 10 inch x 15 inch high. I am calling this a canal boat lamp only because of it's proximity to the old Erie Canal. And because it resembles pictures ... moreI have seen of other canal lights. This could also be railroad. Rare Vintage Perko Brass Ship Boat Large Tank Lantern
Super nice original Perko lantern that shows little use. The wick shows that it was used some. And the glass shield around the wick is cracked. Other than that this is an outstanding example of this lantern with the extra large tank. There are a couple of tiny dings but nothing noticeable. This has not been polished, and is in original untouched condition. There is a small Perko tag on one side but the engraving is light and will not show up for the camera. The lantern is 14" high not counting the top ring, and 7" diameter at the base of the tank. This is a lantern from my personal collection that I am selling off. Antique Marine Navigators Lantern Brass Signal Lamp w original Candle Boat Light
Antique Maritime Boat Navigators Lantern! It is Marked Navigators Lantern but it is so covered in old paint you can only make out the L. See pics. Somewhat rare piece. Brass with Original glass and original candle, see pics. Stands about 8 1/2" tall not including handle/hanger. It's been painted black over what looks like it's original green. Most of these I've seen have a back piece with two metal"handles" So either this one came without them and with this hanger or the handles were removed and the hanger added later. However I don't see any removal holes anywhere on the back but I do see possible old weld marks covered up with old paint. There is a metal peg missing on the front that slides the inner door around to block the light. The door does slide. It has both the inner brass slide door and blackened metal ... moresheathe. Hard to show in pics. Paint is severely flaked. It is in it's original condition as is the candle see pics. Glass is not chipped nor cracked but dingy, needs cleaned and has a cool air bubble in it but you can only see it when it's opened and I didn't get a picture. Very solid hinges are tight and fine. One small dent near globe on it's right if facing it. Hard to see but I got the best pic I could of it. Clasp is strong and door shuts tightly. Nothing wiggles or moves around. You could actually use this right now. All in original condition. The only thing I'm not definite on is it's age. It could be back as far as the Civil War era or just late 1800's. It is believed to have been used as a Railroad signal lantern. conductor's lamp on a train here in the Southwest but I have no evidence to prove that. Vintage maritime lamp. We believe it to be copper and brass with glass. When you look at on one side the lamp looks straight, as you turn it to the other side it looks a little lopsided, just adds to the character though! Vintage ~ Antique Pair Brass Nautical Oil Lamps with Gimbals(no glass shades) ~ heavy and solid. Each weighs 3 1/4 pounds, counting the gimbals ~ height is 8 1/4" ~ width at widest point is 3 1/2" Please view my photo's. As they are part of my description. These unrestored lamps are in nice condition. I have not polished them. No dents or dings. Wicks are present and will move up and down. All parts move freely. Both burners are hinged. Nice pair of vintage Ship lights. Selling as is. Can use a good polishing. Will try to describe as best as I can. Copper lights with bronze hardware/signage. Marked STUURBOORD and BAKBOORD. Thick Red and Blue glass. Inside is a label for DHR( Den Haan Rotterdam) Outside is marked MADE IN HOLLAND. Electrified. Tested and working fine. Not sure if these were oil lamps at one time. The tray holding the light does slide out. The hardware does seem to indicate the lamps are side mounted. Each light is about 2 pounds 5 ounces.

This little lantern is in very good condition. I don't know the age of it and there is not a manufacturer name on it. It is nicely done. I is electric. The bulb in it is marked USA. I was able to read Sylvania and 230V. I wiped the end to read it more clearly and all of the letters went away. It is a dual pole bulb. The bulb receptacle screws out and there are screws that can be removed or loosened to place wires into it then tightened back to make a very good positive connection. Weathered and has some rust and oxidizing on the lantern. The top hanging part is loose as screws not secure in the back of it. I believe it is copper and or brass. I do not see any name on the lantern. There are no dents on the lantern. Front screw opening. The front has the word PORT. The light is heavy red glass. Not plastic. There is no interior piece that lights the lantern. The glass has come loose and the metal frame has separated in the corner but all of this can be fixed. Could use a cleaning/polishing. For its age. It is in very good condition. Approx. measurements: 13” tall(ring for hanging is 3” which is not included in the height measurement of 13” Each side width is 6” small top that ... moreopens is 3” tall Front: 11 1/2” around the front just below the top that opens. RARE 1900'S ANTIQUE NAUTICAL- BOAT SIGNAL LANTERN - BRASS - ZINC- OIL BURNING
For your bidding is a Rare P and A Mfg. Antique Nautical Boat Signal Lantern with Brass Oil Burner. Font Lighting Popular in the 1900's to communicate to other ships. Or ship to shore before Marconi was invented and used. This beautiful lamp was given to me by my Aunt when I was a child. Both my Aunt and Uncle were avid collectors of memorabilia from Great Lakes Ships and Freighters. Often they would buy the inside remains of a ship when it was to be scrapped. Removing steering wheels. Telegraphs, chad burns, lanterns, name plates, ship wheels, compasses, steam whistles, you name it. Anything that had value to be saved later and become collectible. I have no doubt this piece came off a ship. I just do not know which one. This is a beautiful piece. Which I feel is museum quality, and should belong to a serious collector. That is why I'am ... morelisting it. It is in Very Good condition for its age. Era and vintage. There is some slight wear which is understandable for a piece this old. I have not polished the Brass in years. There are no dents. Or dings on the piece, a few minor spots of rust, on the inside signal shutter, behind the lens, which I'm sure would clean up with little effort. The 3" glass lens is flawless, with no scratches, cracks, or chips. The door opens. And closes as does the spring signal shutter. The belt clip is complete, along with the two adjustable carrying handles. Inside you will find the original burner. And wick. The top unscrews to fill it with lamp oil and it is adjustable for brightness. This does have Boat Signal Lantern stamped above the hinged door. Perko is NOT the only company who made these lanterns. The only markings on this one are on the burner wick adjustment which says P and A Mfg. Waterbury Conn, Usa. Which stands for Plume and Atwood Manufacturing. The company was established in 1869.
