The original manufacturer was Wilcox& Crittenden& Co. There trademark was Capital W with a Capital C embossed on top of one another. The factory was in Middletown, CONN. USA. There is a photo of the Logo which appears to be embossed on brass, it is on the side, located on top of a metal sleeve, which is riveted on the lantern itself. This sleeve must have been used to slip over something to hold it secure to the ship. Both sleeves are intact and extremely secure. This embossing is very difficult to capture in a photo as the glare, and clarity of a photo so close. The lanterns stand just shy of 13" tall with the hanging loop standing up. They are made to fit in a corner. The sides measure 5" With the front curving around to meet the 2 sides. The glass itself is 5" tall and is almost 90 degrees. One lantern has fresnel green glass for the starboard, and the lantern with the fresnel red glass is for the port. The glass on both lanterns is in very good shape and have no cracks or chips. The metal round accesses to the oil chambers/wicks are both present and appear tight when screwed in. The wick chambers need cleaning, but seem to work, and even have wick left in them! We didn't attempt to light them, but knowing something about oil lanterns, don't see any reason they wouldn't work, however this isn't a guarantee. just presenting things honestly. The metal. Nowhere, on either lantern shows any sign of rust. However they are a brown color. Paint appears to be old, in some places chipping, or peeling off. There are the usual signs of true usage. Wear and tear. Overall appear to be in very good shape. I have not checked them for leakage, however on inspection, I don't see any reason they would leak. I have no idea how old they are. Antique 1800's Nautical Ship Gimbal Candle Sconce with Glass
This antique nautical gimbal candle holder has a fine patina and its frosted glass weather guard has very few chips and I could find no cracks in the glass. There is a slight stain on the glass that might be removable with a gentle touch. This hefty piece of history only needs a wall mount to step back into service. Device still has wax from a candle that has tinted green with age. A must for any maritime collector. measures 13.5" from pointed weight base to top of glass weather guard.

Here is an antique ship's lantern made by Universal Metal Spinning and Stamping Co. New York. The manufacturer is stamped into the side of the lantern. Also. Markings on the top say"Starboard Classes II& III" The triangular shaped lantern has a hinged door, vented top, and a handle for carrying. I believe this is a brass lantern, but I am not certain. The metal is non magnetic. The lens is thick and'ridged' and is blue in color. There is no burner in the lantern. The lantern and lens are dirty, but I do not see any cracks in the lens, or any dents/dings in the lantern. Lantern measures about 10" tall(not including the handle) and is about 7 1/4" wide from corner to corner. In searching the internet, I have seen a very similar lantern set(both port and starboard) by the same manufacturer, sell on liveauctioneers.com, ... morefor $350. This BEAUTIFUL. Antique, ALL- BRASS SHIP'S LANTERN was designed and built by Sherwood. Ltd. of Birmingham, England. Though it is very old, it is ALL here. All parts are in working order. There are NO dents anywhere, all the glass is in perfect condition, all hinges and snap closures are in good working order. The only very slight condition issue that I can find is that the wick mechanism is tight and hard to turn, but it does turn. All the solders are in perfect condition- no broken solders. This is just a GREAT example of a top-quality antique ship's light. The mounting bracket on the back is heavy and perfect. There is a little loss of black paint on the wooden handle which could easily be touched up. If you wish. The wooden handle is in great shape with no cracks. All of the rivets are copper. This lantern has been used, but over-all ... moreit is in nearly new condition. Please zoom all the photos to see all the parts and their condition. There is a little mild water spotting on the back, but it is very slight, otherwise the finish is just about PERFECT! This is a wonderful, classic and authentic marine lantern in wonderful condition. Here's a great old Dietz marine lantern in excellent condition. See Condition. From my research I believe it's circa 1917-1918. It's a dark lantern. With a brass sheath that pulls up to protect the glass. The sheath has numerous cracks around it(as most do) and is difficult to push back down(thus, no photos of it) Size is 11 1/4" tall x about 6 3/4" across the bottom. Aside from a few minor dings I can't find any fault with this lantern. If you know old lanterns, you'll most likely conclude, as I did, that it has much less wear than one would expect. Antique Brass Ship's Light Contains correct and highly sought after cobalt blue globe. A rare find. Cord including on/off switch is in good shape. Works as it should. Globe has chip to the lip that sits between the housing and lid. This chip is not visible when lid is on and light is lit. Both sliding doors(front/bottom) are present which makes this an even rarer find. It stands 12 inches high with about a 6 inch diameter. Offered for your consideration are three(3) antique brass cabin lights which were probably used on earlier sailboats. They are gimbal lights which means they will remain upright as the ship/boat rolls. Lights are 6" tall. Base is 3 1/2" dia. and stick out from the bulkhead approximately 5" They are wired for either 12V or 120V light bulbs and have on/off switches. I do not have the lamp shades but they should be easy to find and any boat supply store. These light are very unique, solid brass and would make a great addition to the interior cabin on your boat.

Estate sale find. This is a heavy duty water proof ships navigational Blue lamp. It's 9 1/2" tall and 5 1/2" wide and the mount on the bottom is 7 1/2" across. The previous owner converted it to an indoor display light. The only two things we did were clean/inspect the glass lens and replacing the light cord. Which was defective. There is some corrosion and oxidation on the original three light sockets. The lens is intact with the exception of a crack near the new light bulb that was added. It does not appear to go all the way through the glass because you can’t feel it with your fingernail on either the inside or outside. Please see the last picture depicting this flaw. Repaired and sold private 1947, wrecked and burnt 1966 This is a very large piece. I taped a dollar bill to it in one of thepics to show the size. Stern light removed from the Liberty ship F.A.C. Mahlenberg at the end of world war two. It would have been replaced by a peacetime(non hooded) light. The vessel was bombed off Naples in 1944 repaired and sold private in 1947 She was wrecked and burnt in 1966 The wartime light was hooded to allow other ships to follow her but not allow aircraft to see the light. This ship was actually shot at and bombed by the axis forces during world war two. Real history here. She was named after the first speaker of the house in the U.S. This light appears to be bronze. But it is not. It is a ... moreferrous metal. It appears that the non ferrous top is not original. The light is rewired for 115 volts and may be plugged in and lit. They are completely intact and considering their age. In excellent condition. They haven't been altered or painted and have a gorgeous patina present. Heck, who am I kidding, they haven't been touched(dusted) in years. Yes, those are cobwebs you see in the photos! The hinged doors haven't been opened in probably 50 years so you can imagine my surprise while opening to take photos finding the original oil containers with the wicks still intact. All writing on both lanterns is in Japanese. I don't detect any breaks. Chips or cracks in the colored lenses or glass.
