Appears to have been designed to burn oil(see photos) History: In the early l960’s. I purchased this lantern from a marine salvage yard in San Francisco. I disassembled everything and had the metal parts dipped to remove decades of paint and crud. And then sprayed the metal parts with clear matte acrylic. The objective was to just clean it up; not to make it look new nor“restored” At that time we had a waterfront weekend place on Bethel Island. CA, in the Sacramento/San Joaquin Delta area. Our dining table was placed before a window which overlooked Piper Slough. Where we moored our boat, and Frank’s Tract(lake) This lantern was hung above the table and centered in ... morethe window. During the wiring to accommodate 110/120V“shore power” I installed a small pull-chain switch at the bottom of the lantern. Here’s how it worked: If the adults were gathered round the table sippin. Dippin. And grinnin, we might prefer the red“mood light” only. If the kids were playing checkers. They would pull the chain to activate the down-light. There is ample space for a Par38 halogen floodlight. The beacon is lighted by three other internal lamp sockets illuminating the Fresnel lens. Hanging chain and canopy(as shown) included. Large 15" Tall Antique Ship Nautical Maritime LANTERN Light PERKO? Restore Parts
Offered for sale is this old antique Maritime Ship Lantern for restoration or parts. I do not know who the maker was but it has a strong resemblance to some of the Perko Lamps that I am seeing on Ebay. It stands just under 15" tall. 7 1/2" wide and 7" deep. The ribbed glass is in good overall condition showing no cracks but could use a good cleaning. The original kerosene burner and font is missing and the lamp has been converted to electricity, but it does need to be re-wired as the wiring is old. This is a great candidate for restoration or to be used as parts. The bottom panel is hinged but is missing the slide rod to keep it closed which should be an easy fix. It is a rather heavy lantern weighing just over 6 pounds.
