This is ... morea rare. Brass oil lantern manufactured in the early 1900's for use in finer staterooms. It is an absolutely beautiful antique in great condition. There are two small cracks(you can see them in the last two pictures) around the base of the lantern. Most likely caused by age. Also I had a hard time screwing together the lantern and the piece that connects to the wall. I think it could be easily replaced with another bolt. And it might even go together if it is forced. I was trying to be careful when I was putting it together. See the third to last picture to know the piece I am talking about. This lamp was manufactured by C. Gray Ship Chandlers Established 1882 Arbroyath. Scotland. You can see that information on the brass nameplate(see picture above) This lamp used to belong to my aunt’s great uncle and he bought it many many years ago in San Francisco. The lamp is very heavy! The burners are original with a double wick. The knobs are stamped"Duplex Made in England" It appears to be original and in working condition. The wick knobs turn. I have not attempted to put fuel in the lamp or light it. Because I do not know how and I do not want to mess it up! The lamps have not been polished because I wanted to keep it in its current condition and I liked the way they look! The clear glass chimney is in perfect condition. As you can see in the picture the green shade does not fit around the holder(it fits there just fine. But it does not go to the edge of the metal rim) so I do not know if it is just made that way or this is not the original shade. Either way it looks beautiful. I just want to make sure you can see that in the picture and you are given the best description possible! The lamps are large and measure 14 1/2" tall and have a diameter of 7" These solid brass ship lanterns at one point were electrified however no permanent damage was done during the electrifying process and the added sockets can be easily removed bringing them back for their original purpose. If you intend to use them with electricity then a new cord will be required as the cords were cut during removal. Neither has the interior oil lamp and I have been told that just about any small metal wide bottom oil lamp can be used. Both lanterns have their original thick heavy clear lens and these are in excellent condition. They also retain their bottom lenses(shown in images) Both tops are hinged with their original thumb screw and have their original bail handle. The brass is in very good condition with no damage. Maritime Navigational Lanterns.The main housing is constructed of galvanized iron and ... morethe top cover is copper. However they have not been shined up. The original manufacturer was Wilcox& Crittenden& Co. There trademark was Capital W with a Capital C embossed on top of one another. The factory was in Middletown, CONN. USA. There is a photo of the Logo which appears to be embossed on brass, it is on the side, located on top of a metal sleeve, which is riveted on the lantern itself. This sleeve must have been used to slip over something to hold it secure to the ship. Both sleeves are intact and extremely secure. This embossing is very difficult to capture in a photo as the glare, and clarity of a photo so close. The lanterns stand just shy of 13" tall with the hanging loop standing up. They are made to fit in a corner. The sides measure 5" With the front curving around to meet the 2 sides. The glass itself is 5" tall and is almost 90 degrees. One lantern has fresnel green glass for the starboard, and the lantern with the fresnel red glass is for the port. The glass on both lanterns is in very good shape and have no cracks or chips. The metal round accesses to the oil chambers/wicks are both present and appear tight when screwed in. The wick chambers need cleaning, but seem to work, and even have wick left in them! We didn't attempt to light them, but knowing something about oil lanterns, don't see any reason they wouldn't work, however this isn't a guarantee. just presenting things honestly. The metal. Nowhere, on either lantern shows any sign of rust. However they are a brown color. Paint appears to be old, in some places chipping, or peeling off. There are the usual signs of true usage. Wear and tear. Overall appear to be in very good shape. I have not checked them for leakage, however on inspection, I don't see any reason they would leak. I have no idea how old they are. This is a very nice antique/vintage ship's candle holder with a swinging gimbal mount so that the candle stays level when hung on the wall(pic#1&2) or sitting on a desk. I can't date it exactly. But we bought it from an antique store in NH over 30 yrs. ago. The overall length is about 7 3/4" and it will hold a candle up to about 1 3/4" There is a small depression/dent on the bottom(pic#7&8) and it is tarnished(we have never polished it, but appreciated the patina) Please examine the pictures carefully and if you have questions. Antique Oil lamp/ lantern Weem's & Plath Brass Nautical/Railroad w/ Gimbal Mount
Here is a beautiful. Nicely patinaed, oil lamp, made by Weem's& Platt. This lantern is numbered, early make, and came off a 68' Coranado sailboat that has sailed over seas and back many times. It's in excellent shape and can be polished if need be, however I don't suggest it. It comes with a gimbal mount for leveling the lamp while boating. It can also be mounted on the wall in your home and would look awesome! The lantern itself is selling for $200-250. The gimbal alone is $70-$90. Here it is, w/ a real cheap starting bid. Good luck!

An original lot of two antique ships nickel plated brass wall mounting gimbal candle holders. The candle holders measure approximately 5" tall and weight 4 pounds each. These antique maritime items were probably originally used on a yacht and date to about circa 1890-1900. They are both in excellent all original complete condition free of wear through or dents and only in need of a little polishing as I have left just as they were recently found in an old estate. They do not seem to be an exact match although clearly intended as such and made at the same time by the same manufacturer one candle socket has lines on it and one does not and one has a slightly small gimbal than the other with all other details exactly the same as well as the details of the wall brackets. Antique Brass Nautical Marine Maritime Launch Lantern w/ Rare Vent Design
This early lantern is about 8 ¼ in. high. 7 in. wide, and 4 3/4 in deep. The vent has a design similar to an early automobile style lights. A vintage burner is included. The brass is in good condition with normal signs of use and some additional holes near the vents(see photos) The lenses are good with no cracks, just some small scratches on the surface. Brass does have some staining and tarnish on it and underneath has more tarnish that is green in color so it will need polishing this lamp. Cleaning and polishing of this lamp will be the responsibility of the buyer to do. Antique Perkins Marine Brass & Galvanized Perko Anchor Light w/Original Burner
Perko Anchor Light 10 1/4" high and 4 1/2" in diameter Listed here is a very nice anchor light. The glass is in great shape. There is only minor surface rust on the galvanized parts with no rust thru. The top ring is brass plated, the top is solid brass as are the protector rods over the glass. Nautical style. Antique, brass sconces. These pieces are used and need to be rewired. Rewiring is simple and should take no longer that 10 minutes. One sconce is missing the threaded rod mounting hardware but one can be found at your local hardware store. The finish is fair and could be cleaned up easily with Brasso or left with its natural patina. The glass globes are in good shape and don't need replacing. Here's a great old Dietz marine lantern in excellent condition. See Condition. From my research I believe it's circa 1917-1918. It's a dark lantern. With a brass sheath that pulls up to protect the glass. The sheath has numerous cracks around it(as most do) and is difficult to push back down(thus, no photos of it) Size is 11 1/4" tall x about 6 3/4" across the bottom. Antique Brass Ship's Light Contains correct and highly sought after cobalt blue globe. A rare find. Cord including on/off switch is in good shape. Works as it should.
