An interesting and unusual gents finger ring for a member of the Order of Knights of St John of Jerusalem. One of the most ancient crusader orders founded in the C12th. The ring is in great condition, it looks to be virtually unworn, on the inside it is marked GOLD SHELL. There is a well enamelled disc showing the cross on the top, the enamel is perfect. I am estimating a date for this as Edwardian era, 1900-1914. Lots of items were custom made for members of the order, rings, brooches, pendants etc. they tended to be made to special order and often were unique. The original gold 1897 Pioneer Day Semi-Centennial Jubilee Badges were given out to all the remaining approximate 600 original Utah Pioneers. These highly sought after badges were originally made of gold for the 1897 Pioneer Day 50 year Anniversary. In the center of the badge is Brigham Young. Prophet and president of the Church. Around the edge are a wagon, bees, beehive, train, and a pony express rider. The cameo is carved in shell and so nicely done that the veil looks translucent and the Madonna's lovely face is peaceful and serene. The frame is a delicate silver filigree with a gold wash. This is a wonderful vintage dress clip with the centerpiece being a Miraculous Mary Medal. The clip has a silver tone finish and me be an 800 level of silver- I am not sure. This clip measures about 1 1/2 inch across and is in good condition with some very light greening in a few places and wear as shown on the clip mechanism on back. People sometimes think that the 1830 on the medal refers to the date the piece was made but this is actually refers to the time frame when a nun was apparently having visions of the Virgin Mary. The Polish Falcons of America were(and they still exist today) a Polish organization with a focus on physical fitness, patriotic education and the establishment of an independent and reunifed Polish state. The Polish Falcons were originally establish in Chicago in 1887 as an association for Polish ... moreimmigrants new to America. Their design was a direct offshoot of similar associations operating in partitioned Poland. Physical education. Maintaining a firm link to their Polish heritage, and continuing the struggle for Poland's independence were their core pillars. In the early 1900's they had slowly become more militant and forces within the Falcons oriented the organization towards favoring some form of direct military action or czyn zbrojny. As early as 1905 Falcons organized psuedo-military maneuvers. The Falcons story is long and complex one which would require much more time and space devoted to it to tell it properly. Orange carnelian colored shell offsets the carved scene. The halo around Mary's head shows rays of light emanating outward. The detail in the folds of her head dress are wonderful.
