Distinguished Vintage Notre Dame de la Satre "Black Madonna" Pin
A very interesting piece. This darkened pin is certainly unusual. The words"Notre Dame de la Satre PPN" on the front seem to link to a belgian cathedral(A different one from the more famous Notre Dame de Paris) And the image on the pin seems to be that of a black Mary statue, holding a similarly dark skinned Jesus, known as the Black Madonna. The pin. Though quite dark, appears to merely be tarnished. I am uncertain of what the metal is made of-there are no markings on it, but it is reasonably heavy and given the tarnish levels and the metal's consistency, I would have guessed it to be silver, so take that as you will. There is a slight bend to the pin. But I am uncertain if it has been bent afterwards or if the bend is simply to accomodate the pin, as it is rather indented at the metal clasps of the pin rather than a simple ... morebend. The pin weighs 8 grams. And is 3 inches wide(7.5 CM) and around half an inch(1.5CM) tall at the tallest point, the central medal. An odd piece. And very distinctive. This listing was made by the family of Karen Doreen Hartsoe Koontz. Whose Franciscan order name was Sister Luke Panteleimon. Sister Luke passed away on 8/24/2013. From liver failure. She was 55. While it would never even occur to us to sell the things she valued. Much of what she left behind was simple stock-only a simple rosewood rosary and a few other objects meant anything of significance to her personally. In her last days. She mourned that her stock items were not being sold-she saw her role on eBay as much as a vocation as any other role. To provide inexpensive and beautiful religious items to people who would have a hard time affording them otherwise. Given this. Simply offloading her stock as a large estate sale or, even worse, for scrap metal. Seems abhorrent. As such, we our trying our best to sell the remainder of her stock out as she would have wanted. I received this beautiful pendant when I was confirmed in 1966. It is a very pretty pendant with silver around the edges. And inside the pendant has blue, then white, and a red heart with a black cross in the middle. It has an engraving in the back that says" I Am A Lutheran" Very nice for a gift for an older person, or even if someone has medical issues, it can be worn to the hospital or nursing home.
