Palley’s 1954 Double Hose Scuba Regulator
Popular Science/ Palley’s 1954 Double Hose Scuba Regulator This is a Vintage 1954 Double Hose Scuba Regulator based on the’53 issue of Popular Science Magazine. And parts listed in the Palleys Gadgeeter’s Heaven mail catalog, and subsequent flyer. I discovered this regulator as part of an entire dive store“Jack The Frogman” that started in 1953. Closed in 1974 and locked the doors with all inventory, tanks, customers service work, etc until the owner died in 1998. I found two of these Palley regulators in a dumpster. Along with much history that was un-appreciated. After helping the family clean the estate. I found one or more of the tanks and some accessories. I discovered the original letter of correspondence from Jack to Palley. Along with the original mail advertiser and flyer. The popularity was so great for Palley that they designed ... morea subsequent flyer with the requisite scuba items one one side and blueprint on back side. The only other Palley regulator has sold along with the original flyers. However I did photo copy the exact flyer and complete catalog in color, these are included in sale. This regulator was based on the Palley design with the 6004-1“Diluter Demand Oxygen Regulator” yet varies from the twin cylinder design shown in Popular Science’53 issue. I have enlarged a cut out from the Palley flyer that shows a scuba diver wearing this rig in single tank configuration. Another unique variation is the position of the duckbill exhaust which were wired onto the end port. Verse internal. This regulator had hoses that were too far of state to maintain and have been replaced with the original“flex breathing hose” Since there were two of these regulators in identical configuration. Both single tank and slight modifications but based on Palley, and the Palley flyer shows a single tank configuration that this was a norm. Very nice clean 1954 Coleman Professional model 202 has the original ceramic burner cap.Font has no dents, globe is excellent, all knobs etc. move freely, coleman on glass pyrex on opposite side, chip on top of vent chips on inside but not rusted through. The tank holds air when pumped up, some paint has been sprayed on the bottom to prevent rust( old timers used to do this) There is 54 visible but I can`t see the month, decal very good, font clean inside. I have it strung up with normal classical bass strings and Aquila nygut trebles and it sounds so sweet. the action is set fairly low for playing jazz or swing, the neck is very straight with no bowing.the guitar is very solid. Unlike the student Conn Directors which appear very similiar to the Connquest. This horn has a true conical lead pipe that starts at 0.437" and expands to 0.468 in the bottom of the tuning slide and out to 0.484" in the valve section. This gives this cornet a rich cornet tone with an easy response and accurate intonation in all registers. This 20A is easy to blow and has an unusually large tone quality. Phi Epsilon Pi was a non-sectarian fraternity in principle Some members of the Mother Chapter transferred to Columbia University and were responsible for the founding of Beta Chapter a little over a year after the original organization of Phi Epsilon Pi. Other transfers ... moreto Cornell University were responsible for the founding of Eta Chapter in 1911 giving the Fraternity its first out-of-town Chapter. The three Chapters. City College. Columbia and Cornell operated more or less independently until on December 29. 1911, a small group of alumni in and around New York City decided that Systematic control and growth were essential to the establishment of a real National Fraternity. With this in mind. They established what was known as the national Executive Committee. This group adopted a constitution, assumed complete jurisdiction over the Chapters, standardized the local constitutions and conducted general business of the Fraternity. The group met monthly in New York from 1912 until 1917 but due to the necessity of having the Chapter Superior represented in most cases by proxy. The best results were not obtained. This was particularly true after the phenomenal growth of the Fraternity in 1914-1916. At the beginning of 1917.
