He received tonsure in 1482 and in 1483 was made Abbot of Font Douce in the French Diocese of Saintes and appointed Apostolic prothonotary by Sixtus IV. All the benefices which the Medici could obtain were at his disposal; he consequently became possessed of the rich Abbey of Passignano in 1484 and in 1486 of Monte Cassino. Owing to the constant pressure brought to bear by Lorenzo and his envoys, Innocent VIII in 1489, created the thirteen year-old child a cardinal, on condition that he should dispense with the insignia and the privilege ... moreof his office for three years. This spoon has a silver Giulo silver coin. Issued during the pontificate of Pope Paul IV, circa 1555-59, and is attributed as Berman 1040. The Papal coat of arms and other design features are quite distinct on the obverse, but the reverse shows hints of design and some lettering, but is quite worn. Regardless, you do not see very many spoons with coins that go back this far in time. The spoon itself weighs 8 grams or.3 ounces. With a length of 11 millimeters equivalent to 4 1/4 inches.
