Which was a part of a larger collection of various works of art by various classic, modern and contemporary artists. The main body of the collection consisted of numerous works on paper and several paintings. Some of the Works come framed but were removed form the original frames for simpler storage and handling. Here presented work is in manner of Paul Klee- one of the most recognised artists of the 20th century Paul Klee was born in Münchenbuchsee near Bern on 18 December 1879. In 1898 he decided to move to Munich. Where he studied etching and drawing under Heinrich Knirr. Two years later Klee began to study painting at the Munich Art Academy under Franz von Stuck. His first ... moretravels took the painter to Rome in 1901/02 and, in 1905, to Paris. Participating in 1908 in the exhibitions mounted by the Munich and Berlin Secessions. Klee met Wassily Kandinsky, Franz Marc and Hans Arp, who would exert the formative influences on his work. Taking part in the second"Blauer Reiter" exhibition in 1912, Paul Klee met more distinguished contemporaries, such as the artist Alexej von Jawlensky, the poet Rainer Maria Rilke and the writer and composer Herwart Walden. 19th century-Circa 1800s ANTIQUE RUSSIAN PRIMITIVE FOLK ART SIGNED ICON SAINT NICHOLAS TEMPERA on WOOD& EMBOSSED HAND-HAMMERED TIN RELIC. Wonderful signed in two places-19th century antique primitive Russian icon religious relic of Saint Nicholas. It is signed on the back with a faded but legible hand-written Russian ink inscription-I cannot read Russian but date of person owning it or gifting it or church ownership is dated on the back and reads"1896" please see inscription and date on back of wood block. It also has a stamped/embossed into the metal/tin at side signature of maker which is a bit faded but reads something like"CH" or"CR" with maybe a backwards"R" hard to see) and the number"84" with a round stellar'star' shape next to the number, I have included a close-up pic ... moreof this embossed signature as well-please see close-up pic provided. This antique Russian Icon relic is from the 1800s and consists of what looks to be tempera on wood block which is in very good aged period condition(see pics provided) An icon of Saint Nicholas holding a scroll with white beard and hair and raised relief of painted Russian crosses(see pics) the wood block is wrapped in a metal or tin sheet which is embossed& hand-hammered with Archaic religious symbols of Russian crosses, a halo around the saint's head and a robe-the halo shroud has hand-hammered details of little beading work around the perimeter of the halo and the robe(see close-up pics provided) There are also hand-hammered dots which spell out Russian letters which I cannot read as I do not read Russian-please see close-ups provided of the Russian hand-hammered words on front at sides of the Saint figure.
