The Icon of the Mother of God of Kazan made its apparition on 1579 at Kazan the capital of Tartar Khaganat recently captured by the Russians. The iconography subject is closely associated with a Greek icon of the Hodigitria Mother of God. By this Icon young people are blessed at the altar. The feasts were established on 22 October(5 November) and 8(21) July. This Russian Orthodox Icon was painted by a modern professional church artist at the Russian town Rybinsk(not far from Moscow) that is one of the main and old centers of the Russian icon painting. The icon was painted on a very old(probably 18 century) wooden board with the shrine i.e. the rectangular hollow at the middle part designed for the image. The margins are above the hollow. The set comes with a brush. It looks as if this set has never been used. I squeezed the tube of white to test a drop of paint. Prior to that it also looked unused. I am not familiar with these paints, this set was purchased quite a few years ago. The paint in each pan is hard to the touch with a satin feel. Georges Braque was a 20th century French painter who invented Cubism with Pablo Picasso. Along with Cubism. Braque used the styles of Impressionism, Fauvism and collage, and even staged designs for the Ballet Russes. Through his career, his style changed to portray somber subjects during wartime and lighter, freer themes in between. He never strayed far from Cubism, as there were always aspects of it in his works. Braque died on August 31, 1963, in Paris. Braque's first solo show took place in 1908 at Daniel-Henry Kahnweiler's gallery. From 1909 to 1914. Braque and fellow artist Pablo Picasso collaborated to develop Cubism as well as to incorporate collage elements and papier collé(pasted paper) into their pieces.
