Up for offer is a late 1800's( Saint Nicholas chalk ware statue/figurine. I know little about this rare piece other than it was purchased from a plantation estate in the low country of SC but the original origin is unknown. The seller stated it was from the late 1800's(looks older to me.don't know) and that it is a statue of St. Nicholas(don't know that either) He stands. With head bowed, a stately 8" tall. The base measures approx. 3 1/2" x 3" This figurine is a beautiful piece in all its glory. The paint/stain has lots of wear throughout. I see no chips. Cracks or repairs but there is wear, in particular the tip of his hood, left shoulder, and other places, which definitely adds to its character. It also appears he once had a staff through his arm but has been replaced by a wood twig. As stated, I know little ... moreabout this item. it just looks very unique and very, very old. Saint Nicholas of Tolentino reliquary with 4 individual relics.
From my personal collection. A very rare and unique piece as it is a beautiful and comprehensive set of 4 relics of Saint Nicholas of Tolentino. Also with the relics is a lovely antique medal as well as a silver French medal. I did not make the reliquary but it is wood with glass on a brass stand. This is a wonderful opportunity as it took me many years to accumulate these relics.

Of New York, Bragdon, master, arrived at New York on 13 April 1852, from Havre on 18 March, with merchandise, 2 cabin and 337 steerage passengers; there had been 1 birth and 1 death among the passengers during the passage. The ST NICHOLAS was built in 1841 in New York by Westervelt& Mackey. 797 tons; 148 ft x 34 ft 6 in x 21 ft 5 in(length x beam x depth of hold) The ST NICHOLAS sailed in John J. Boyd and Edward Hincken's Second Line of packets between New York and Le Havre from 1841 to 1859. During which time her westward passages averaged 38 days, her shortest being 23 days, her longest 63. She is said to have burned at New York in 1859, following an explosion, but this is a mistake for the Mississippi ... moresteamship of the same name, which exploded and sank at New Orleans in June of that year: the packet ship ST NICHOLAS continued to sail between New York and Havre until at least the outbreak of the Civil War.
