This fine“Golden Hour” Clock. Aka Golden Hour Mystery Clock, was made by Jefferson Electric Company, Bellwood, IL in 1952. The ring and base are made of a cast zinc alloy and plated with pure 24-karat gold. The clock has a brushed satin finish. The hands of the Golden Hour appear to“float” on the clear crystal with no apparent source of movement. In the day it was advertised as“A Miracle of Luxurious Precision” The clock keeps accurate time. The condition is very good with light scratches on the dial in front, and other minor marks you might expect to find from normal use for an item of this age(please inspect the photos to verify condition to your satisfaction) The crystal is in perfect condition. The clock is approximately 8 7/8” overall height X 4 1/2” wide. 1925 Conn Gold Plated New Wonder II/Chu Berry Tenor Saxophone
Make sure to read the condition description above for the technical details. I’ve had this horn since 1996. And it’s been regulated(w/repads as needed) yearly ever since. I bought it from Bob Ackerman after visiting his NJ studio and trying out dozens of horns, including topline Bueschers, Kings, Martins, later model Conns, additional Chu’s, SML’s, and several Mark VI’s. The competition was stiff, and what a thrill it was to have all the great horns at my fingertips. This one, the best player, was accordingly hand-picked(I subsequently traded in my Conn 10M, sacrificing its more modern, comfortable keywork in favor of the Chu's more rich, robust sound) Yes, the mechanism on the older Conns is a little clunkier(it's still smooth and buttery on this one) but if your priority is sound and power, nothing compares. The Chu is arguably ... morethe most free-blowing saxophone of all time, all the more so with the gold over silver plate. This one is a screamer, blowing easily in each register, with no stuffiness. It has been my horn of choice all these years, but lately I’ve also been playing a Big B Aristocrat and I’m discovering my softer side. I’m heading for a sweeter, mellower tone. Not playing much free jazz, or rock anymore. So my Conn must be feeling unfulfilled. It's certainly not pristine cosmetically, but it’s still a gorgeous instrument from the golden age of the saxophone, made the year The Great Gatsby was published(1925/serial number 161418) The horn was just regulated(see pic of invoice) so it is sealing well. And they have several instruments made specifically for them directly from the manufacturer with their logo put on the instrument. I am not certain of the origional manufacturer but can tell you as a trumpet player myself this is a quality horn. And nothing near the junk pockets you see listed all over this site! I have a Jupiter pocket listed right now also and you can look at that listing for a site to go read about pocket trumpets. This Boothe Bros. is every bit as good as my Jupiter and perhaps a little better. I think it plays about the same. With the same few lower notes that are not spot on but overall has very good intonation. This pocket ... morehas a 4 inch bell where as the Jupiter is 3 5/8" So I think this Boothe has a little bigger fuller sound. But my one friend who plays much better than I do. As he is a professional trumpet player he likes the Jupiter better? So it is just a personal preference I think. He does like more mellow sounding horns where as I like bright Maynard style horns. The prior owner of this pocket had the slides. And valve caps plated in 24k gold. And the end of the bell gold washed. I polished the silver plate when I got it and it seems to be a good plating job. Description: Vintage 900 solje pin from Norway or perhaps Finland. We will leave the expertise of knowing for certain up to you. It measures 1-1/8 inches across. The gold-plated danglers stand out fairly prominently from the pin, and they measure just under 3/8 inch(11/32 inch) across. This pin weighs 4.1 grams. On the back it has the maker initals H.J just as I have typed them, with only one single period between the two letters, and it is also marked 830 S. The gold danglers were completely blackened when we obtained this pin and we have cleaned them just enough so that there is some visual contrast between the silver and the gold, but you may want to polish the danglers to more of a shine, and we will leave that decision up to you. The pinback still works very well. A couple of the loops that hold the danglers are in a slightly different ... moreposition from one another, I do not know whether this is how the piece was made or whether this is just from years of being worn.
