Royal Caribbean West Indies Cruise Map Aged & Distressed On Sculpted Wood Art
I've seen this Royal Caribbean West Indies cruise map before but never mounted for display in this manner. The map appears to have been burned around the edges and stained. It was then sealed to a wood board. The edges of the wood board have been sculpted to follow the outline of the map edges. The item was further aged and distressed by using some type of tools to create dents other surface imperfections. Through this process it appears there was some fading to the map ink. Mostly to the original red color. Has a wire on the the back for hanging on the wall. There is some chipping to the wood edges and corners primarily visible on the back. 19TH CENTURY WOOL WORK ALPHABET SAMPLER BY FANNY WOOD AGED 9 - c1880
Late 19th century wool work alphabet sampler by Fanny Wood aged 9. Though undated. The even weave gauze used and the style of stitch work would indicate this piece dates to c.1880. This sampler is completely charming. The top half of the gauze is stitched with rows of alphabet letters, numbers and border patterns, finishing off with Fanny's name and age. The bottom half of the gauze has the words"The Lord is my shepherd. I shall not want" stitched in the centre with a tree motif on each side and underlined with a strawberry border. Beneath this is a central flower basket with trees on each side. The gauze has overall discolouration consistent with its age. Quite dark with a small, dark stain by the number 7. The colours of the wool are good, albeit not quite as vibrant as they originally were. The last photo is of the reverse ... moreof the sampler and shows how the colours would have looked when Fanny first stitched it. I did rinse them off to remove the dust and dirt that had accumulated on them over time. This is a wooden box. With rivets(which appear to me to be made of brass) and metal decorations The lock on the box appears to be made of brass as well. Please see the photos to determine this for yourself. The lock does not have a key and is clasped shut on the bottom. However. The box is not locked closed. The box opens with hinges and opens all the way(as pictured) There appears to me to be notable age to this box. But I do not know the year of creation. There are ample scuffs and scratches throughout the box. As shown. There are some scratches/ scribbles in the inside of the box. As shown. Inside. There are space gaps between the bottom of the box and the sides of the box(it may have pulled away from the seams) The metal is tarnished/ oxidized. It has an overall aged/ used appearance. This is a one-of-a-kind piece of artwork created by me. A"Creative Junquie" This began life as a bright white, tole-painted cart that was found in a thrift store. It has now been transformed into a beautifully aged and vintage-looking garden cart. The wooden cart portion was plaster cracked and aged while the metal structure was aged and given a patina look. The whole cart was transformed. This could be used for many uses and occasions.
