Who ruled from 103 to 76 B.C. During that time, he commissioned the minting of two coins, the lepton and the prutah. In common use at the time, these are the coins that are believed to have been added by the widow to the treasury as Jesus looked on. He is said to have commented on her contribution, saying that wealthier people had contributed much but she had given more they they because she had little and had given all she had. In the King James version of the Bible, the coins were referred to as"mites, meaning of little value. ... moreThus, today they are known as widow's mites. Beautiful vintage jewelry box made in Jerusalem of olive wood and the wood is absolutely gorgeous and the box has many compartments as shown in the pictures. Overall condition is very good when considering the age of the box. As can be seen in picture 2 the top has inlaid pieces of wood and" Jerusalem" with hebrew writing right above the word Jerusalem. There are 7 compartments of which the bottom compartment has a keyhole. Unfortunately we do not have a key. Also as can be seen some of the material that lines the top compartments is frayed. The olive wood is in excellent condition. Some pieces of inlay are missing but they are not obviously noticeable. The box is is quite beautiful and very collectible. The measurements are just a tad under 7 in. tall and 8 and 1/2 in. across the front at the longest part of the box. Antique "BEZALEL" Olive Wood Camel Ink Well - Made in Jerusalum 1920s-30s
Antique. Hand carved& hand painted olive wood camel inkwell circa 1920s-1930s. I believe this is BEZALEL but cannot find a mark on the piece to confirm that. The word"JERUSALEM" and something in Hebrew is painted on the top near the base just above the delicate painting of a man and a camel. The bottom is stamped"Made in Palestine. Original glass inkwell is set inside a the camel's hump in a hinged trunk. I am unable to remove the glass inkwell. The trunk has a metal hinge in the back and a metal fitting with decorative detail stamped into the metal. There are ink stains around the glass inkwell and on the inside and outside of the trunk that conceals the inkwell. The original varnish finish is a little rough and shows age and wear. There are a few pin holes in the bark around the base. I assume they are original but ... morecan't know for sure. There is a small piece of the camel's bottom lip/chin missing and s ome of the bark around the base appears to be chipped away but don't know if it was always like that or if that happened sometime later.
