REVERSE DEPICTION: The“Goddess” Victoria; winged; holding palm frond and trophy(spoils of a military victory) in her left hand; her right hand resting on an upright shield which in turn rests upon a bound. Seated captive with bowed head. ATTRIBUTION: City of Rome Mint between July and December of 243 A.D. SIZE/MEASUREMENTS: Diameter: 23 millimeters. Weight: 2.95 grams. We also have available high quality(solid. Not formed) handcrafted genuine Greek leather cord with either sterling silver or bronze/brass fasteners. DETAIL: This is a very handsome silver antoninianus produced in the city of Rome itself some time during the year 238 or 239 A.D. It is in very good condition. Only relatively light wear from circulation in ancient Rome. All legends and themes are clear and fairly distinct. It was well struck both front and back, though the reverse strike is just a little bit high off dead center, and the obverse strike a little bit low off dead center, and with respect to both sides, the flan(edge) is somewhat ragged(quite characteristic of the coinage of the era) However the planchet(coin blank) is very generous, even“over sized” and so nonetheless both the reverse and reverse still capture the entirely of thematic elements and legends. You might note how little wear to the emperor’s ear, crown, and hair– the high points of the coin where circulatory wear shows up first– still exceedingly sharp! Virtually all legends and themes are very clear and distinct. It was well struck both front and back, on a very large and heavy planchet(blank) well-rounded with smooth, flans(edges) This is in contrast to the typical specimen of the era which was oftentimes not round(more often than not a bit oblong) and with rough, irregular edges. Both the obverse and reverse strikes are very well-centered, again, as contrasted to the typical specimen of the era which oftentimes was so badly off-center that portions of the legends and themes would be lost. The reverse strike is a little bit lower in profile than the obverse side. Which is sharp and in high profile. The let

TRANSLATE Arabic Chinese French German Greek Indonesian Italian Hindi Japanese Korean Swedish Portuguese Russian Spanish The Secret of the Hittites: The ... moreDiscovery of an Ancient Empire by C. W. Ceram. Translated from the German by Richard and Clara Winston. DESCRIPTION: Hardback with Dust Jacket: 279 pages. Publisher: Knopf; 1956) ISBN: 0880295937. The Secret of the Hittites" returns to the startling panorama of the author's first book. Gods, Graves, and Scholars" in the continued examination of the most ancient world known to man. Since the publication of C. W. Ceram's famous first work, a new discovery of enormous significance transformed the perception of ancient history. The darkest archaeological riddle of the Orient is on the verge of an ultimate and improbable resolution. And this with dramatic suddenness in the space of a few momentous years. The mysterious ruins discovered in central Turkey in 1834 were perplexing. Yet no one was willing to ascribe them to the Hittites, a people given scant acknowledgement in the Bible and dismissed as a minor Syrian tribe. It was not until 1880 that a hero of archaeology advanced the dynamic theory that there had once been a mighty Hittite Empire stretching from the Black Sea to Damascus. By 1910, only archaeologists and historians had begun to gain a faint and fragile knowledge of its lost history. Furthermore. Only in the years since 1946 has there been any hope of reading the fantastic Hittite hieroglyphic inscriptions, and only recently has anyone actually done so. Finally, almost twenty centuries after Christ, we know that twenty centuries before Christ the Indo-European Hittites descended into Asia Minor. We may now establish a third great empire beside the Babylon of Hammurabi and the Egypt of Ramses II read the first fragments of a profound unknown literature, of which Mr. Ceram provides stirring excerpts. The truth about Kadesh as one of the few battles that truly shaped world history is now known to us. The first great political treaty. Betwee
