heavy, antique, black Cast Iron Eagle Door Knocker from the Hudson Valley
An antique cast iron American eagle door knocker with signs of use and age. This piece is heavy and is a somewhat rough casting. Imperfections that indicate that it is an old piece. It had been painted black a long time ago and the patina now is a an aged matte look. There are losses to the surface with rust on the upper right side of the acanthus leaf underneath the eagle. Please view the photograph. There is one mounting hole. Underneath the eagle in the top of the acanthus leaf. The hole is every so slightly off center which is an irregularity of somewhat primitive manufacture technique. There is wear to the striker and the strike plate. The doorknocker is about 7.5 inches tall and is 4+ inches wide. This is an architectural piece from the Hudson Valley in New York with all bells and whistles of a genuine early piece. Vintage Mid Century Valsan Brass Door Knocker - Lion Head - Made in Portugal
Up for bid is a wonderful Brass Lion's Head Door Knocker. This knocker was made in Portugal. By a company named Valsan. I am estimating it as mid century from information on the company's website. They began in 1925 and made mostly brass items and this sort of thing until the mid 1960s. Between 1970 and 1980, they switched to making mostly bathroom fixtures. This is a really lovely piece and a great size. It would work on most average size doors. So it won't look like you stole it from a castle! It has a nice patina, with some duller parts and some shiny parts. It would go well with a traditional decor, or could be that one traditional piece that every modern decor needs to have for balance. In addition to using as intended on a door, it would be very nice mounted for wall decor. Head is approximately 3 1/4" w x 4" long. ... moreOverall length. Huge Victorian Gothic brass doorknocker devil and cherubs
You are bidding on a true Victorian Gothic doorknocker. Composed of iron that is brass plated and gold gilded underneath. This was taken off a large palatial home in Illinois by my 80 some year old client who lived in the home up until the 80's when she moved. Weighs a little over 5 pounds. Measures about 12 inches long by 6 and 1/2 inches wide. The base of the doorknocker is supported by a post that runs through the mouth of the devil character. Heavy Antique Victorian Cast Brass Ornate Twist/Crank Doorbell Cover 4 7/8” Dia
This is a heavy cast brass doorbell cover for the old type twist handle doorbells. This is for the cover only. I don’t have the rest of the bell. The piece is 4 7/8” in diameter and sits a little over 1 ¼” high. Weighs slightly less than a pound(14.5 ounces on my scale) Has a beautiful patterned surface with one of the designs that almost looks like palm trees. It is in excellent condition and not beat up or dented. It does have remnants of dark green flaking paint in some areas that should clean up easily. No maker’s markings anywhere that I can see. It was found with a broken stud with a bolt for attaching the bell to the stud. I’ll send these along with it. Very nice piece for repairing or rebuilding an old doorbell.
