The devil having stolen the challis(in his hand) from the tabernacle. The Bishop has a halo. So possibly a Bishop of Rome. Below is an armorial with a cross. The knocker is styled as a satyrs head. A fantastic piece and genuine age. On the rear is the Reg No 551012 for 1909 so over 100 years old. There is probably a tale to the icon but it's lost on me. If you know it please please inform me. This is an amazing turn of the century brass door knocker made by Evered and Company. The knocker part of this piece is made entirely of brass. But I believe that the part which attaches to a door is brass electro plated(see photo 7) On the back of the knocker is a shield emblem with the stamping RE&S which is Evered and Company's logo. Also, on the back is stamped 5706(maybe a house number) Evered and Company was created in 1884 from Richard Evered and Son, which was a reputable brass and iron company. Mounted on original wooden plinth, with brass gong( possibly nickel plated, dirty, but non- magnetic) complete with wooden cover to protect the works(shown removed for picture) Wooden plinth is 170mm long by 100 mm wide. Wood looks like oak. Some paint splashes etc, but m=no major splits, cracks, worm or rot. Marked to back 50 OHMS. no other maker's marks or numbers. The coils are wound in black wire on neat wooden turned bobbins. Mounted on a steel chassis. Most of the internal metal parts are nickel plated. Works well. Vintage Nutone Art Deco Long Bell Door Chimes It is functional! With night light Excellent addition to your estate. T his is a 1930's era door chime that utilizes a synchronous motor that rotates through a set of contacts to activate little solenoids to hit the chimes. Very clever design. I t also has the entryway nightlight that has a pull chain so you can turn it off. Very nice tone. T he top mechanism is covered with an art deco aluminum 2 piece cover. T he chimes measure 38. 41, 43, 50 inches. Please note that this is well over 70 years old and even though it is in pretty damn good shape for it's age it does have some scratches and wear. the strings that hold the chimes are getting a little long in the tooth so you may want to think about replacing them. When one melts silver one can lose as much as 5% of the weight in the smelting process and I can not be held responsible for weight lost after melting. All my items are measured with a standard tape measure and are rounded off to the quarter inch. I attempt to be as accurate as possible. Many years ago I bought the mold and several of these at his estate auction. So I'm unsure of how to describe it other than its a private casting. Very heavy and ornate. Beautiful! We mounted one on our front door because we loved it so much. It's a bit tricky to mount as it has holes on the back but not on the front. English Antique Bronze Door Knocker, Modeled as West Door of Bath Abbey, c.1903
The west door was donated as part of the reconstruction in 1611 after the original door was destroyed during the"Dissolution of the Monasteries" by King Henry VIII in 1539. During the reconstruction. The west door of Bath Abbey was carved courtesy of Lord Chief Justice Sir Henry Montagu. The Montagu coat of arms is prominent on the doors along with the Latin inscription: Ecce quam bonum et quam jucundum est. Behold how good and pleasing it is. This superb doorknocker measures 3 5/8" high by 1 7/8" wide and is cast from solid bronze. On the back of the'T' arm that affixes to the door is the maker's mark. GH' and a number which is, sadly, unreadable. On the back of the door itself is the cast-in legend. RD 397377' that being a UK Patent Office-issued registered design number that was allocated in 1903. ... moreThe knocker has one flaw. Antique Victorian Eastlake Brass & Porcelain Mechanical Hand Crank Doobell
This is a restored and functional Eastlake era(1870-1900) cast brass bell hand crank doorbell. The doorbell has no makers mark on it that I can find. The crank handle and mounting piece have a distinctive Eastlake pattern. And are solid brass. The white handle is made of porcelain. The brass crank arm and mounting piece show evidence of original nickel plating. The bell is solid brass. The mounting plate holding the bell and mechanism is cast iron. There were two hairline fractures on the mounting plate that were securely repaired by brazing(a form of welding) The brazing repairs can be seen in the photos. After these repairs were done the mounting plate and mechanism were thoroughly cleaned to bare metal. The metal was then gun blued and sealed with automotive clear coat lacquer.
